Give bolt a run for his money
Well all I can say is even after a 2 hour walk nel has surprised me again I knew she hated water and did not like the rain but never seen her sprint across 2 fields at full pelt towards the main road (thankfully it's fenced all round) when it started to spit with rain. Ok so dad needs to sort out her recall as at present it's 3 out of 5 times but not bad for a five month old. I swear to god never seen her shift so fast she was like a freight train in full motion shame her brakes don't work that well in the wet. I reckon she must have done 200m in under 20 seconds as I say give bolt a run for his money.

Awww Nel, Daisy hates rain and water too!
Have you thought about getting a long training line until you've perfected her recall? I use one and so do a lot of people on here

Re: Give bolt a run for his money
Lol when I took her out it was windy but dry it only needs to start spitting and she heads for home . Left her coat at home will make sure I pack my rucksack better next time. And nel gets tangled in her lead as she is part frog jumping up so god knows what is gonna happen with her training line

Re: Give bolt a run for his money
I have a rucksack too which i keep everything in, especially Rocky's coat which has been very useful lately. We always have Rocky on his lead or long training line as his recall is usually OK but not 100% all the time. Far better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Give bolt a run for his money
I totally follow what your saying about the lead or training line I Do only let nel off in totally enclosed areas and only if there is no other dogs about. She is good with other dogs but being 5 months can be a little over excited at times, I do conceded the point that no area is totally enclosed and if there is a small gap there is the chance she will find it, as I say her recall is an average 3 out of 5 times and I do conceded that until that improves to 5 out of 5 times I should not let her off the lead or training line. I do not intend to make excuses I am a first time solo dog owner and I am learning as I go say as nel so I really appreciate the feed back and ideas they are all welcome and taken in board if it was not for this site I would still be feeding her on bakers which I have learnt is a huge no no and she has been switched to fish 4 puppies since reading all the information I gained on this site. She still has her chicken and rice meal every night with dad we sit down together in the kitchen her with her bowl of chicken and rice me with what ever I am having got her into that routine from the start as it was a way to build her up at te beginning as I was lied to by the man I had her off as she was supposed to be 8 weeks old but turns out according to the vet she was only 5 weeks old. So I had to build a her up and get her used to eating solid food plus bring on her own when I was at work (I only work five mins down the road so come back after at the most 4 hours to let her out). Been a steep learning curve for me but we are both happy she passed her last vet check up 4 weeks ago with flying colours gained double her body weight vet impressed with her weight gain as its all muscle.

Aww Nel they do love a good run in the rain and wind.

Re: Give bolt a run for his money
She has really pleased me today been out most the afternoon down Cannock chase had a few breaks as we just walked round and round with my brother and his 2 yr old whippet x and both of them of the lead playing at times not a cross word bark or growl between the two of them although nel is fast she is gonna have to work hard to catch peppa my brothers dog the classic moment that I missed camera wise was nel miss judging a large clump of grass and getting her front legs caught in it at full pelt and toward rolling sitting up shaking her head looking round sheepishly to see if anyone had noticed and charging off again after peppa whilst we both stood there wetting ourselves
