Poor little ice bad knee

Went to the vets last week had X-rays and ice has a problem with her patella keeps popping out she goes in on Friday for a op 

Always worry sick when the dogs are poorly has anyone else had this problem and how are they now after the surgery

It's not an uncommon condition unfortunately, but the results of the surgery are generally very good - vets are accustomed to this op (on many breeds, not just Staffs) and know what they're doing.

We none of us enjoy having our beloved submit to surgery (and the recovery period!) but it will be worth it.

Aww Andy how awful for you I've not been through this so can't help there but I'm sure someone will pop along who can help I hope ice has a speedy recovery after her op and lots of hugs for her daddy to help with the worry

Once its done and she's home I can settle a little , will probley set up a bed next to the cage on the first night , when she got spade spent the night with her and my other half came down stairs and found ice flat out in her caige with my head in there with her both snoring  

Paws & claws crossed here, hope everything goes well, I know what you mean though once they're home we can settle a little, shame on your OH not getting a pic of you in ices crate

Knowing my luck the other half would have took a picture made me jump I would of sat up hit my head ice would have probley barked in my ear  then she should have took a video    lol

ahh poor ice,i hope the surgery goes well,guess you'll be clock watching all day till you can go and get her but try and not to worry

 Aahhh hope it goes well . My friends staffy just had the exact same op on Wednesday, by this morning my friend said she was trying to sprint to the garden...the hardest part will be keeping Ice calm...good luck

Hi everyone just got ice back from the vets after surgery she is very dopey at the moment got a lovely bald leg with a large plaster covering the knee , going to stay up with ice tonight and become nurse vet andy for the night , the vet has been lovely given us some extra pain killer just in case , a lamp shade just in case she starts licking ,

When speaking to the vet he said I had to laugh as ice was as good as gold very cuddle and full of staffy licks , he said I had ice on a drip and turn around for 30 sec,s and she had chewed through the drip water and fluids everywhere little madam

That's great to hear that it all went well Andy, sending hugs for a speedy recovery    

Now for the fun part - keeping her quiet and still for a few days

Right got through the first night whining abit wasn't sure if it was pain or not but turned out to wee wee time so three time in the garden and a  snack break she was hungry , she really settled at the moment just I am cream  crackered 

Glad the op went well and her first night home, sure she'll be right as rain in no time  xx

What a brave girl, I'm glad to hear she's doing so well and that you are taking such good care of her. The worst part is trying to keep them quiet whilst they recover, so good luck!

Ice is doing well she has had the plaster taken off the knee and now the stitches come out on Monday , she some times puts her wait on the leg when she forgets but then when she remembers 3 legs  only problem is very reluctant to drink any water , spoke to the vet she is on pain relief and anti biotics but she's only drinking with a syringe little madam going to stop the syringe and hopefully she will start drinking 

Maybe try giving her an ice cube to lick, this is a good way of getting fluids into her.

Just a little up date ice is drinking feeding she's not on any pain relief anymore due to have the stitches out tomorrow so fingers crossed all ok at the moment

Right all was going so well until ice managed to remove 3 of the 6 stiches , but to be fair done a really good job bless her grrrrrrr ,
Took her to the vets he has removed the other 3 and he said she is doing well, so next visit on the 12 th cheers every one for the good wishes you guys are the best

Well we are 4 weeks down the road she is a good girl been taking it very easy,  the vet has now given the order for 5 mins of walking 2 times a day so moving on nicely

Everything was going so well ?
ice has started limping again and not putting any pressure on the  knee 
Spoke to the vet who has said may need to operate poor ice 
So instead of the vet looking at her I have asked him to refere her to a specialist . So on Tuesday we are taking her to the vet queen mothers hospital specialists and they are going to take a look and poss operate the same day with a 2 day stay over poss another patella corrections or a small parts of her shin bone removed and put in the knee with screws  I just hope what ever they do I soon have my little ice back to normal

Ohh no poor Ice! I was just reading how fantastically she'd improved as well, I'm sure they'll have her sorted in no time though Andy - and judging by how good she was the first time I'm sure she'll be great the second time round! Hopefully all goes well! Hugs and kisses to Ice

We'll all be thinking of you and Ice on Tuesday and crossing all our fingers and paws that they will be able to fix Ice's problem without the need for too much intervention.

Right saw the specialist and at the moment she needs physio therapy on her leg becouse her muscles in the leg need buiding up , also hydro therapy in water so she gets movement back to the joint, After Christmas she will be rechecked and may need surgery again on the knee and lower shin to realign the whole leg and that hopefully will keep the knee in place  

Glad there is some options but just won't my little ice back being her naughty little self

I'm sure the physio and the hydo therapy will help, although the surgery will probably go ahead to correct the leg.
