Reluctant to go for a walk
My Staff is an 11 months old Blue, she's normally really keen to go for walks and can't wait to go out, the last few days she gets to the end of the street and refuses to go any further. She turns around and heads for home, as soon as she knows she is going home she speeds up and pulls to get back.
Any ideas on possible reasons?
thanks
Kelvin

Re: Reluctant to go for a walk
Was it raining Kelvin? Lots of Staffs just hate the rain. I can't get Kuchar out the door if it's raining, and if it comes on to rain whilst on a walk he turns tail and heads home asap.

Can you think of anything that may have spooked her at all recently.

Re: Reluctant to go for a walk
So she's normally happy at being out in the dark then, even if it's raining?
If she goes past this particular place happily in the daylight, but not in the dark, then it does sound as if something spooked her at the end of your street.
Can you take her another way for a few nights until she (hopefully) forgets whatever it was?

Re: Reluctant to go for a walk
I too think something has spooked her. Theres one walk we do now and then off the canal path back home, something did spook Pixee, and each time now, she either stands her ground and refuses to move, I have to coax her on saying its ok.

Re: Reluctant to go for a walk
Maybe get Star a little coat for when out for walks, it could be that she is feeling the cold ??? Do you take a toy of some treats with you ? She knows that back home is warm and comfortable where she feels safe, try to take a little something out with you that she can relate the safety of home with.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head. Our staffies do feel the cold dont they.

Re: Reluctant to go for a walk
Is it just the morning walks or all the walks?
Has she been spayed?

Re: Reluctant to go for a walk
of being spooked ..
'Lady' gets spooked by :
trees waving in the wind
hanging laundry in the wind
and today ..
autumn leaves falling in the woods ( more like w.t.f. are those !! )
and ..
she refused to walk passed those 'men-at-work' roadside triangular warning signs ..
from where she saw them .. the back .. they were black triangles held down by white sand-bags
methinks it's mostly about 'shapes'
~~~~~~~~~~
just now tried to video her indoors playing with a toy
fat chance ! .. all she did was start barking at the camera :-)
must have been the zoom lens ..
first time she's seen it .. prev. vidz were done with an iphone
