Very bad walk
My beautiful staff and springer both caught in snares, left for foxes no doubt by the side of a public footpath
Luckily they're okay but it could have been alot worse. Moll's harness basically saved her as the snare caught on it rather than around her neck. She was caught first, I had called her and saw her stuggling then ran with all I had to get to her as I could see she was in distress. Utterly horrible night.
Have told the land owner who was apologetic and realised the errors of putting them on a public footpath.
We are assured the food left out was not poisoned but I'm still worried

Re: Very bad walk
I'd still report them. It could have been so much worse for you.
What if a child had got trapped.

Re: Very bad walk
Who exactly would I report it to?
And yup, my heart was in my throat running over. I know it could have been alot worse. Horrible way to kill foxes in my opinion as well.

Re: Very bad walk
Just to your local police. They might tell you to contact your council. But will most likely look into it. It's incredibly dangerous what those people where doing.

Your poor dogs, and poor you. I hope you all recover very soon from this dreadful experience.
And as above - report it! I'm pretty sure that snares of any sort for any animal are illegal.

Re: Very bad walk
To be honest I'm just so emotional at the moment with respect to my doggie friends its untrue.
Sorry to use this forum as an outlet but my last few days were as follows:
Sunday night our neighbours dog died, it landed on a stick got blood poisoning and died in the animal hospital, only 4yrs old rescue dog.
Monday our old family dog Jess had to be pts as her back legs had given up.
Today our dogs get caught in snares and I thought they were going to get injured
But as a positive I've been reading all the stories, and having had our little visitor recently, am going to investigate how to foster a dog. Anyone with any pointers would be good. I live in chester.

Re: Very bad walk
Don't apologise, there's no need. We are happy to listen. We all go through these sort of thing with our pets.
I can imagine it was a horrible evening for you. I think you handled it very well. Tbh I don't think I would have.
Maybe it would be best to sleep on it to give yourself a bit to chill out. But in reality these people most likely will put the traps right back out again and only removed them to keep you happy.
I'd report them tomorrow first thing.

I hope this landowner is paying for any of your vet bills.

Re: Very bad walk
Oh no this wasn't what I expect to read at all! That's absolutely terrible, and very stupid! It's a public footpath, people and dogs will be wondering around! I really hope both of your girls are okay!
