Update on Chiquito
Saw the ortho specialist today. He can't see anything clear on the x-rays to explain the limp, so Chiquito is going in tomorrow for a day stay and CT scan.
Have my fingers crossed that the surgery he discussed as the next step won't be necessary, but really just hoping that this stay might finally give an answer as to what is wrong. It seems to have been going on forever and I want my poor little man to be well again

Hopefully the ct scan will show whatever's wrong. Of course, it could just be growing pains (Panosteitis)? Has your vet mentioned that?

Have you tried physio? Vets love to jump in with knifes but sometimes surgery is not required if you get a good physio.

Re: Update on Chiquito
Thank you for your kind wishes everyone x
Chiquito is home, feeling sore, sorry and sad after the aneasthetic but is okay. The ortho said that the CT and following shoulder x-rays showed nothing out of the ordinary - he has sent them to the radiologist for further review but is confident the finding will be normal.
Happy they didn't find what they were looking for - feeling frustrated at having gone through all this and again getting no answers though.

Our vet did mention that this is a possibility. If I remember correctly though a diagnosis for this can only be made through exclusion of all other possibilities? Is it something you've any experience with/knowledge of Caryll?Caryll wrote:Hopefully the ct scan will show whatever's wrong. Of course, it could just be growing pains (Panosteitis)? It isn't something we have tried Hayley. The ortho suggested today that the 'issue' is appearing more likely to be muscular/tendon/ligament related though .. I am guessing that this would be something physio could help with if it is the case?Hayley wrote:Have you tried physio? Re: Update on Chiquito
If the issue is muscular/tendon/ligament related I'm sure physio would help grately Kell - would this be covered on the insurance ?

Re: Update on Chiquito
Only through being a member of a GSD forum. GSDs are very prone to it. The 'cure' is basically carefully controlled exercise, and growing up! No long lead Walks, short off lead romps but not up or down hill, restricted play with other dogs & no running up & down stairs, hills or jumping on and off things.Kell wrote:Our vet did mention that this is a possibility. Is it worth talking through physio with the ortho vet now or do you think waiting to do an ultrasound first would be better?

Re: Update on Chiquito
Thanks Caryll It would be great if it is something he will just grow out of ... though the cure in this case might really be worse than the disease. 6 weeks of confined rest has seen me loose many shoes, two lounges, 4 pillows and a good deal of sanity already.Caryll wrote:Only through being a member of a GSD forum.
