I am both also, I am a good listener I have found in the 27 years I have been hairdressing, I am sometimes a councillor aswell!
I do hear some things but am very discreet. I can also talk for England!

Re: talking to new people
I've put both, but I'm not a great talker (ok, shut up laughing you lot!) and I usually end up listening!

Re: talking to new people
I have made a fool of myself on many occasion, I remember once being introduced to a friend of my ex husbands. He was over from New Zealand, we were in a pub (nothing new there!)
On the introduction whilst shaking my hand, I sneezed and farted at the same time!!! OMG I just wanted to disappear

We have a name for the sneeze/fart which molly does quite often after the initial giggles
We've name it the "I've just snarted"

Re: talking to new people
That really cheered me up reading through this thread
I guess I am more of a listener really unless the person is talking rubbish then i become a talker
We have 2 ears and 1 mouth, I try to use them in those proportions

Re: talking to new people
For a good interaction between the two of you, both need to talk and listen as the occasion and the conversation indicates.
I can't stand people who BLAAAAH (and it's usually about themselves or some obsession of theirs) without letting me get a word in edgewise.
Almost as hard to bear are those people who "listen" but don't respond; maybe they're shy (forgiveable but hard work) or they're not interested (make excuses and leave).
"Talking" is a two-way street.

Both, it's nice to be the person who people feel they can offload to and equally nice to offload or just gossip with others.
