Crying I. Miss. Sleep.

Post by bellaadee Tue Oct 15 2013, 14:41

Milkshake is doing pretty dandy in all aspects Big Grin she's gotten brave and is more curious every day! only aspect that i'm having problems handling her is at night. We'll play and play and play with her until she passes out, and then when we carry her (in one of our blankets that we're allowing her to "borrow" since it has our scent) and place her in her crate, which i might add, she loves, she wakes up and starts a fuss and wants to play and will ONLY fall back asleep if she's in bed with us. I didnt want her to get accustomed to this, simply because this is the ONLY place chico has all to himself. And being that he only weighs 7lbs, it's not uncomfortable for us to share the bed with him.
Any advice?? Crying or Very sad

Crying Re: I. Miss. Sleep.

Rocky has pretty much always gone to sleep on our bed with us apart from the first couple of nights we got him from the rescue centre. It was very soon obvious to us that he would end up sleeping on our bed though and he is the only dog we have. We do have a super king size bed which helps though.

Are you able to have the crate in your bedroom if you have room, then at least Milkshake will be able to see you all there ??

I have a queen, which i purchased just last summer. And yes, her crate is in our room, facing the bed so she can see us and we have a good visual on her. This is where the co-parenting occurs lol; my boyfriend cant ignore the little bit of crying she does, which of course she'll do if she knows she'll get a reaction. This morning i woke up to her breathing in my face (super cute btw Blushing ) I suppose tonight i will fully ignore her and see how long the crying continues for.

I know it's hard, but you have to ignore her. OR just get up, stick her outside for a wee and then straight back in with no fuss.

I remember despairing and posting something similar about the sleep deprivation when Bruno was settling in with us too. But like everyone told me, it does get better!
I slept on a blow up mattress in the living room for a fortnight before Bruno could go all night in his crate with no fuss.
He's now a pro at it and when my partner and I had a late night last Friday and didn't set an alarm, Bruno let us sleep until 10am! Unheard of before!

Persevere. It's worth it Smile

Good luck! Sometimes a cover over the crate can settle them, just round the sides bu yes you are going to have to be strong for a few nights on the crying Xx
