How do you cope with Fireworks!
Looking forward to having a puppy on 25 October - not looking forward to dealing with the bl--dy fireworks
Memories of how our Buster (a staffy) was traumatised for years, I'm wanting to find out how everyone else deals with it.
I might not have trouble this time with Lucy being so young; but fireworks are let off at Christmas and the New Year!
Are firework CDs any good -to help them get used to the sound?
Does the Thundershirt work?

Re: How do you cope with Fireworks!
Hi! Just seen Lucy in the other thread, she's absolutely gorgeous!
For my first two dogs (labradoodles) we had very different experiences! Toby loathes fireworks or any loud bangs and will fret all evening about it. Boris on the other hand will sleep through it!
Boris was born on the 5th October so probably experienced the noises when he was quite young, which is where I think it all stems from. Toby was older (born in June) so when he heard fireworks he was more wary.
They played a fireworks CD in our dog training class for Toby when he was about 10 weeks old and had to turn it off because he was getting too upset, so it may not be age at all and may be personality!
I've heard thundershirts work well as long as you get the right size, I suppose it's a bit like being hugged all the time!
Good luck with it. Make sure you don't overly encourage the scared behaviour though, if she sees you're not scared that will reassure her enough.

Re: How do you cope with Fireworks!
I'd wait & see. Some dogs just aren't at all bothered, my Dempsey doesn't give a hoot! My old Bandit was terrified, though, and we used to get sedatives for him from the vets.
If you just act normally, though, your pup may well take his cue from you & not be bothered.
Thunder shirts do work with some dogs, but not all.

Thundershirts are great you can get a plug in also. Personally I wouldn't make an issue and see how she reacts, Moo isn't phased by them at all

Re: How do you cope with Fireworks!
Thanks Darcy-may
I've just read the info and I must admit in some aspects I can see where I might have got it wrong the first time around.
Rosie3 I know I will be on tenterhooks watching her all the time, so I'm thinking a glass of wine "medicinal of cause" will help so I'm not transferring my anxiety to her!
I think I am getting in front of myself, my grandchildren are always saying "grandma stop thinking" lol
Thanks for all your advice

Rocky just barks everytime he hears one goes off, which is quite often around here
We do now have the Adaptil collar and spray so we too will see how things go this year.

That's what you need to avoid cause she'll pick up on it! Your grandchildren are right - stop 'thinking'!suzieJ wrote: I know I will be on tenterhooks watching her all the time,
