Pretty annoyed
I've been walking Molly with our neighbours daughter for the last month or so in the mornings and all going okay. Moll has behaved perfectly (bar a couple of jumps to try and lick ) she doesn't pull on the lead and walks very well hence so H has been able to walk her and hold the lead.
They've decided that they are going to get a dog now which is fantastic. BUT her mum said to me 'don't take it personally but I wouldnt be able to have a staffy, no matter how nice Molly is I'd always be worried and I can't get over their reputation, that it might turn, and the dog would sense it and I can't risk it'..................!!! Pah how silly!

Re: Pretty annoyed
I can guess how annoying that is to you Cesca, especially after all the effort you've put in (well done you!) with taking your neighbour's daughter out with the you and Molly.
I'm guessing your neighbour's daughter is quite young, so be honest if she is going to be sole carer (and more particularly trainer and walker) of the dog, then maybe a Staffy wouldn't be the ideal "starter dog". I'm only saying this because as we all know Staffies are very strong and she might not be strong enough in herself to hold a boisterous young Staff. However, if (with your help) they could find an adult Staff in rescue who is not over-excitable and won't pull her over etc (not too old, you don't want to break her heart by having the dog die within a year or two) that might be ideal, and you could reassure Mum by pointing out that if the dog was "going to turn" it would have done so before now!
If they want a pup, then maybe something like a cavalier or small poodle would suit them better, until the daughter is old enough, strong enough and has more experience of dog ownership - then she can move on up to a Staffie.

Re: Pretty annoyed
Its ridiculous as they were looking at a german pointer.... clearly not strong dogs... Just feel a bit fed up about it now I suppose. Joint walks ending now anyway as we have our running gear!

Re: Pretty annoyed
And Lynda they wouldn't even consider the staff at all as they're clearly a savage breed

Re: Pretty annoyed
Don't feel bad. I get the same reaction from my mom and Bacon absolutely adores her! She still says, "Bacon is so good BUT I'm afraid of his breed"... Drives me absolutely nuts! It's really sad to see the effects of Sensationalism up close and personal.
I just try to brush it off and tell her I'd get another Staffy in a heartbeat if I could!

Re: Pretty annoyed
So stupid... a breed so perfect for children and they are turning there back on it due to stupid hearsay and and all that idle chit chat from people that have probably never owned a dog let alone a staff... amazing how many "experts" thereare out there because a mate of a mate once saw a dog on a walk... bloody infuriating

Re: Pretty annoyed
I can imagine your annoyance! I would feel exactly the same!! But, as said above, they loss. I think we all have to deal with these kind of comments some time or another because we have "a dangerous" dog

Re: Pretty annoyed
Anyone who doesnt like a staffie, doesnt deserve to have a staffie. Whatever dog the neighbour gets though, it would be good if they would take a rescue dog. There are so many superb dogs, crying out for good homes. By the way, I have no connection with any dog rescue - this is just an observation.
