Buying a dilute (Blue) puppy
I understand there are some potential problems when buying a dilute - colour dilution alopecia when a blue is bread to a blue, especially if there are generations of dilute to dilute.
So how do you go about buying a 'good' Blue SBT?
Are there decent breeders producing healthy, sound and good temperament Blue Staffords, or is it a case of you pays yer money, you takes yer chance?......
I'd like to believe there are some good people out there producing good Blue SBTs.
Thoughts please.

Re: Buying a dilute (Blue) puppy
No reputable breeder will breed blue to blue. I'm not saying that they won't undertake the DNA tests & vet checks for hereditary conditions, neither am I saying that the pups will be badly looked after, but breeding two dilutes, whether or not their parents were dilutes, is not good breeding practice.
However, if you are willing to do some research into various lines you may be able to get a good blue from a black x blue, a brindle x blue or a black x black mating. It really depends on which ancestors carry the dilute gene.
The first thing you should be looking for is a well bred, healthy pup from two health tested, fit & healthy parents.

Re: Buying a dilute (Blue) puppy
I had a deposit in for a blue pup that was coming from 2 blue parents and after reading this me and my partner decided not to take the risk. The pup was coming from a welll known kennel on champ dogs so would have probably been ok, It's a real pitty. The guy was very nice and offered our refund back after answering every question.
Is it just blue to blue dogs or is it the same if 2 fawn and white dogs breed?

Blue staffs, red staffs, sky-blue pink spotted staffs: I had my choice of hundreds of dogs when I took Douglas from the SSPCA, in (lowlands) Glasgow. Personally, for the sake of a happy/healthy dog, I wouldnt support the proliferation of genetic abnormalities. Caryll?

Re: Buying a dilute (Blue) puppy
I am starting to think that "good old Brindle" is far more rare than Blue these days!

Re: Buying a dilute (Blue) puppy
Yeh we'll since I've started looking on the Internet for puppy's nearly everyone is blue. I've never actually seen one tho. Most staffs up here are brindle or blank

Re: Buying a dilute (Blue) puppy
People class them as rare which once upon a time they were, now not so much, my girl is brindle so I'm biased, but I do love them all xx

Re: Buying a dilute (Blue) puppy
There are a few blues near me and it seems very popular to have a blue staffy.
My snoop was a lovely Brindle and it why i did not want another brindle it would of reminded me to much of him. Lula is a beautiful red and pictures do not do her justice
