Buying a Blue staff. Help?! Empty Buying a Blue staff. Help?!

Post by m1sslea Mon Apr 30 2012, 22:20

Hi everyone.
Ive moved out with my boyfriend and my staffy Midnight stayed home with my parents to keep their other dog (also staff - Milo) company - he pines like mad when she's not there. Ive been wanting a blue staff for ages, and now we're settled into our new home im ready to buy one. Ive been looking online (pets4homes, epupz, k9puppies) for one but they all seem to be advertising puppies from 2 blue parents, which im not willing to risk due to CDA. Does anyone know of anywhere i can get a female blue puppy from 1 black/1 blue parent? Its amazing how few there seem to be.

Any advice/help would be massively appreciated.

Hi & welcome.

I think you need to approach several breeders and ask to be put on a waiting list for a blue pup. Either that or see if there are any blues in the rescue centres!

Sorry but I am with the message above from Caryll, go on a list if you wish then visit your local rescue centre. There are many dogs young and older ones that need loving, caring homes.

As above, try to contact some good breeders and expect to have to wait a while for the right pup!
Rescues are def worth a try, but we struggled to get accepted to rescue a dog.

Welldone on doing your research too, I never gave colour a second thought, just got mine because the parents were all health tested kc registered etc and the price was reasonable, if I'd have know about the risk of CDA I'd prob hav waited for a different breeder though, as Mia parents are blue and blue brindle which isn't best practice!

Here is a description of it

I also had to look it up. Buster's parents are both blue, I'm not sure what his grandparents etc were. He seems to be fine so far, but it is good to know about so I can keep an eye out for it

cda or Color Dilution Alopecia can course skin problems and thinning of hair on chest and sides and behind ears ect
also some say conform less to standard(breed standard)
and mainly bred for money with little checking for health conditions
