Re: problems with my staffy eating.
Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Please don't call her a pit bull x as you know the pit is a banned breed and likely to cause concern.
Have you been to get her checked by the vet ?

Pero dry food she on. We had to change her to dog food because she went off it. She flits back and forth with stuff. I bought these meaty chunks and feeding them to her like treats.

Hi from me and my gang. I'd go back to the raw and see if you can't find something that works.
Pics work but you have to upload to photobucket first and then post the image link.

Have you tried putting her food into a Kong, and then just letting her work it out?

Re: problems with my staffy eating.
I wouldn't be happy giving her supplements as you don't know what's going on.
It's possible that you've made her fussy by changing her food too often. You could try her with raw green tripe & see if that spikes her appetite.

Re: problems with my staffy eating.
But that could be part of the problem. Yes, she may be pining, but I would have thought it would have started some time ago if that was the case.NathanWills wrote:She goes off the food all the time after a while so i have to give her something else. If you switch food every time she decides to leave it, she'll do it all the more. A healthy dog won't starve itself. So decide what food you're going to give her & stick with it! You can always add a raw egg, or some sardines in oil to her food to make it more interesting.
If you can get it, raw green tripe is loved by most dogs & a little mixed in with her food may not only help her appetite but will also help her to put weight back on.

Re: problems with my staffy eating.
IM aware that shes not 100%. That is the reason why im on here because the vet has tried and god hows I've tried. I am to soft on her at times but in not going to watch my dog waste away and maybe die. So Il try anything just to get her to eat. She wont even eat a slice of ham, what dog turns down a ham. How would you be if it was your dog. Its not like im giving her different food every day. She can go for months eating one thing then she'll just goes funny then. But thanks for your help and Il try and get the green tripe stuff today.

Re: problems with my staffy eating.
Please don't think I'm criticizing! I know how difficult it can be.
I think you need to decide what you're going to feed & then stick with it, but add little bits & pieces to tempt her - raw eggs, sardines in oil, even a little salmon oil drizzled over the top will sometimes do it. Or maybe add a little wet food (grain free trays are better than tinned) just to up the smell & taste?

No not at all im just so stressed at the moment lol. I've got some tripe and this sample of a dried meat and kibble mix ao hopefully one of them will work. Thanks again for all of the advice. Il try and put some pics up later so you can see her then.

Re: problems with my staffy eating.
Hello and welcome. Those pictures on page one, your staffy looks a good weight to me, I cant see no ribs sticking out. Pixee is a fussy eater. Took me a few months to sort her out. She will not eat dried food. wont touch a raw diet, she is sick when eating bones. I had to put her on a chicken and rice diet for a while, whilst I was so worried too that she was not eating enough, this forum has been a great help, I found Wainwrights Trays, they are not dried food, but either wet, more in between, and a few on here feed this to their staffies. Every now and then, I will feed her cooked liver or chicken and rice to give her a break. And I have found that if all else fails with her wainwrights that I know she does love, I stuff it in the knog, she soon finishes it off and then goes to her bowl to polish the rest off. Another vet trip wont hurt either to rule anything out.

Which brand is the food? I'd be a bit wary of anything 'glazed'.

Re: problems with my staffy eating.
I got it from my local market in not sure what the brand is. She only eats the meat anyway lol. Do you think i could try her on the dry meat and some rice or pasta.

Re: problems with my staffy eating.
Rice is better than pasta, and a little here & there is fine. Maybe cook it in stock so that it has a little flavour, although try & find a stock that isn't too high on salt.

Re: problems with my staffy eating.
I do feel for you Nathan. My Kuchar was just such a fussy feeder up to 14 months old, and like you I switched and changed and added tasty morsels every day into his various foods.
Then, like Lynn above with Pixee, I discovered Wainwrights trays from Pets at Home. 12 trays of 3 different flavours in a box for about £9 something. Nothing short of a miracle for me - Kuchar ate it up straight away and 7 months later is still eating it - even galloping towards the bowl when he hears me chopping it up into bite-size hunks! He has 3 quarters of a tray every day, so what with the different flavours it's not quite the same every day.
I wouldn't swear that it would work with every dog, but it is certainly worth a try.

i would give the tripe a try as its great for putting on weight and re the pics you posted if they are resent i wouldn't be to worried about her wasting away at the moment as she looks a good weight
