8 year old staffy with skin problems

hello everyone my staffy teara is 8 years old and every now and again she gets weird scabs on the very tops and under her legs she is always scratching them using one of my feet as a scratching post and when she is scratching herself on my feet she cant stop until i push her away or move my feet its like she cant physically move please help

It sounds like an allergic reaction to something, tbh. Does it happen at particular times of the year?

Darcy suffers with allergies, vets gave her antihistamine's which seem to keep her itchy feet at bay, with the occasional flare up. I use dermacton cream on them & this really helps. I hope teara feels well again soon.

Hello and welcome from me and Ebony! Agree with Caryll, maybe she's had a reaction to something? Try some type of anti histamines maybe? If it's frequent take her to the vets for a check up and see what they think. They might give you some cream to help soothe her and may potentially find the cause of the problem. You can find your own remedies for soothing skin online which involve tea tree oils and what not; but it's best to consult a vet

If you could post a photo of the irritated area it might help? An allergy seems the obvious reason, other than that, could they be bites or irritation from a harness?

Hello thanks for the feedback You can't really see it in photos as the scabs are black and it's not at certain times it's just like every now and again it's been going on now for quite a long time so I might try some cream

Could be any number of allergens. We keep some allergy meds for Frosty as they can come out of nowhere! Some are just more sensitive to some things and I haven't figured out what exactly causes Frosty to act up either.

We feed her bakers soft meaty chunks and were just about to try her on the senior version for the first time

Yup! If you know how to upload them from the computer you do exactly the same but on your phone if you type the website into the Internet at the bottom of the page it should say "view full website" click that then do as you would on be computer it only lets you upload 1 picture at a time though how's her skin now?

Maybe try a hypoallergenic food? Bakers is not great quality and has loads of additives. If you do change food though don't forget to do it gradually over a week or so to avoid an upset tummy.

Woohoo congratulations on uploading your pictures took me a bit to figure out too! She's a verrrrry lovely looking girl - very expressionate face you should upload some to the galleries

I would definately try a food change. The colours and additives in foods like Bakers are not good for a dog and lots of them are banned from human foods as they are detrimental to health and some are even carcogenic. i would try this first and see if it makes a difference. If you can get a photo of the area it would help because it could be any number of things. Does she ever get hive/lumps on her at all?

Bakers food is rubbish maybe you could try a better quality one maybe choose something from our recommended list as below. See if you can get hold of some free samples and see which one is liked best.

If you do go for a change of food please do so gradually over about a week to 10 days gradually introducing more of the new food mixed with the old.
