vaccinations and going out
me again lol!! We are all desperate to get out of our 4 walls and garden with our ?5 month old puppy. He is as you'll already know I guess a rescue puppy so we have started his jabs from scratch as we assume as he was found stray not jabbed but who knows. His jabs were a week ago already and he has the second one a week and a 1/2 away still due to bank holidays and vet availability.
He came from the dog warden to a rescue/rehoming kennels after being found in a large woodland local to us where many people walk their dogs and there is also alot of wildlife including badgers foxes etc. my question is as he has already been potentially exposed to all manner of viruses from his wanders, woods etc also the dog warden facilities and the rehoming kennels where there were many dogs and he was NOT in isolation, which I was suprised at - but it was very, very busy and full to bursting like they all are :0( do we really need to keep him holed up here, can't we get him out enjoying life more and socialising with our friends' and families dogs? He is also around 5 months so not a tiny vulnerable pup if you know what I mean?
Thanks once again :0)

Re: vaccinations and going out
Despite what you say about his background, and despite the fact that you want to get him out & about, I'd go by what the vet advises. Give your vet a ring & explain the circumstances - he'll know what is safe & what isn't.
Although he isn't an 8 week old, he is still just a baby & some of the illnesses that you vaccinate against can kill pups.

I'd definatly go by what is suggested by the vet, I guess the only thing you can do is ask yourself are you willing to take the risk? are you willing to pay for the vets bills? and if certain things/diseases go un-noticed and its too late for vet treatment are you willing to lose your baby. Basic but harsh questions to ask yourself really.
A good way to bypass the time is mental stimulation, go over basic training, go on the net look for the cutest and craziest trick and try to teach him it. Bet you'll have a blast.

Agree with whats been said, unfortunatly I was in the same place as you, an 8 month old just starting out with jabs! I did take her out in the garden on lead (I had one back then) but that was it till all jabs done. The time will fly past........................ no really it will

Re: vaccinations and going out
I think you know what's right. It really depends on the risks in your area IMO. Around here the chance of them catching anything is extremely small, and the benefits of proper socialization are so great I would choose to take the pup out. But other areas have lots of scary bugs around and then it just isn't worth it.
