Vaccinations
Hi...
Just came back from microchipping my Polly.... we were supposed to get her vaccinated for her 2 boost (she is now 9wk).
The Vet told me she can't have it now (unless I want to risk a NON FULL COVER) because she is 9wk.. and 2 wk only have passed since her 1st.
Not only... he recommends to keep the dog a further 2 wk (after the 2nd jab) at home... because she is less then 12 wk.
The strange thing is that the other Vet in the practice (the one who gave Polly her first vaccination) told us to wait only 1 week.... same thing that I read in this Frequently Asked questions.
Who is able to tell me what is going on?
shall I change Vet?
Thanks a lot everyone..

Re: Vaccinations
First jab, two weeks later second jab, two weeks later aloud outside.
Thats the way it is all over, never heard of them not wanting to vaccinate a nine week old pup, they'v done them younger. I would suggest seeing the other vet who gave first jab or phoning another vet practice entirely tell them what you told us and have them give you advice.

Re: Vaccinations
I think it sometimes depends on what make of vaccinations are used, but I've never heard them not wanting to vaccinate a 9 week old pup. Dempsey was done at 8 weeks, 10 weeks & then allowed out a week later.
As Claire says, either talk to the vet that gave the first jabs or ask around. The trouble with changinf vets though is that a new one might want to start the vaccinations all over again.

Re: Vaccinations
The Vet is from the same practice that gave Polly the first one... they have different shifts... there are 3 rotating...
I find it weird though, since I would expect a standardized procedure.
To be honest the Vet did not refused, but strongly advised to come back in few days.... mid next week... because "if it was my dog I would wait between 2 and 4 weeks after the 1st jab"... obviously we did not want to take any risk... and agreed.
But will give them a call and ask for explanations...
Thanks a lot!
PS. you confirm it is 2 weeks after the 2nd vaccine before she gets out.. right?

Re: Vaccinations
It's different here in SA. Here its 3 jabs, 4 weeks apart. So either 6, 10 and 14 weeks or 8, 12 and 16 weeks.
Interesting to see how its different it is in different places =)

Re: Vaccinations
There are alot less things dogs can catch in the UK than in other countries like US/SA. Same as with humans.

Re: Vaccinations
Weird. We were advised to vaccinate at 8, 10 and 12 weeks, he was microchipped on the third one and let out a week later. It's so strange how they differ.

Re: Vaccinations
I guess it is all down to personal judgment.... and local dangers and conditions... The Head Vet, who kindly replied my concerned email even though he is on Holiday, told me exactly the same thing: DIFFERENT VETS COME FROM DIFFERENT SCHOOL OF THOUGHTS..
He advised us to take Polly out after ONE week from her last jab, AS LONG AS SHE DOES NOT GO INTO THE GRASS (where the biggest dangers are)... and in another week time, she'll be free to go anywhere!
Let's see.... at least she'll get some fresh air!
PS. now we have an issue with the collar... she freaks out... will write a post about it...
Thanks everyone for info and suggestions!
