Blackberry picking
Is it just buster or are any other staffies in their element with the abundance of berries about? We have to keep him away from the hedges on our walks as he's scoffing all he can reach. It's very sweet the way he gently picks them off but I believe they aren't good to him?? Shame I can't get him to drop them in a basket I'm a bit partial to blackberry crumble but not so keen on scratched hands picking them

Re: Blackberry picking
To be honest I thought blackberries were OK? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong?
I tried Daisy with one and she wouldn't eat it anyway, I was surprised because she loves raspberries!

Re: Blackberry picking
The Tedster has a method of getting Blackberries.
We have a large Blackberry bush in the garden which he likes to sit under.
He puts his mouth around the base of a branch and then walks backwards which results in a mouth full. How the hell he has not got thorns in his tounge or been stung by the bees attracted to the bush I will never know.
Regards

Re: Blackberry picking
As Sazzle says, Im also sure that blackberries are okay for dogs, im pretty sure that you only have to watch out for thinks like cherries or anything with a pit as they can be toxic.

Re: Blackberry picking
This taken from PawNation website.
Blackberries round out the holy trinity of healthy berries for your trusty mutt, along with strawberries and blueberries. Like those others, blackberries are loaded with antioxidants to fight free radicals in your dog, and also have plenty of fiber and vitamins, too. It is worth mentioning that not all berries are good for dogs. When making a doggy fruit salad, stay away from cherries, holly berries, juniper berries, baneberries, poke berries, and mistletoe berries. These contain pits and/or chemicals that can be health hazards for your dog.

Re: Blackberry picking
Rocky has never really bothered with the blackberries that we see on our walks, he has too many other things to sniff at I guess.
I've never heard of baneberries or poke berries tbh, are they available in the UK Simon ??

I have no idea I have not heard of them either but as we are an international bunch of Staffy lovers I thought it was worth including.Kathy wrote:Rocky has never really bothered with the blackberries that we see on our walks, he has too many other things to sniff at I guess.

Vinnie has no interest in blackberries on walks, but not sure if they are ok or not.

Re: Blackberry picking
Moll and Watson love blackberries I love the way they pick them off so delicately, and they are selective in terms of sweetness I presume? !
