bit of a limp - update
It looks like Vinny's developing a limp in his front leg. He's always been a crab walker, which has improved greatly but now looks like he swaggers a bit. He's absolutely fine when he runs, and nothing seems to be bugging him. I also know over here (don't know if it's the same everywhere else) a vet won't do xrays before a dog is about 2 years old. So here's a million dollar question: with two of them in the house and Vin having more zoomies than Roxy, how can I rest him for a day or two
Seriously, though, are there any joint supplements I could consider or is he too young at 11 months?

Re: bit of a limp - update
We've started giving Lola fish oil which is supposed to be good for their joints as she limps a bit sometimes on her front right leg and she's only 16 months. I suspect it's her shoulder that's the problem. Maybe worth a try? Difficult to give one a rest when there are two though, I agree. Poor Vinny

Re: bit of a limp - update
I think your best bet would be to tire him out mentally, rather than physically - training, Kongs, hide and seek, etc.. You could try splitting each walk into two shorter ones as well, so prevent further injury and keep his energy levels down. Not always easy to do if you're on a tigh schedule though.
Hope he feels better soon!

Aww no hope vins well again soon Lisa, Eleanor's idea about mentally tiring him out is great

Re: bit of a limp - update
I give Moo Aloe Vera supplements and Yumove tablets, both aid in joints. Difficult with 2 dogs keeping one rested and as for x-rays, never heard of leaving it till after 2. Do what you feel is best Xx

Re: bit of a limp - update
Thanks everyone! They're fed raw so he gets all his good oils etc, so no worries there. I agree with the mental stimulation he's quiet the lazy one at times so a bit more of that will be great for him thanks Eleanor!
We have a decent size garden so they're out there a lot running amok and tiring each other out, but what I'll do is let Rox out with her boomer ball which will exhaust her while Vin and I do mental games.
Sadly neither of these two have ever found much joy in a kong

Re: bit of a limp - update
Yes it is! Luckily though it is so hot at the moment he's happy to snooze on the tiles during the day I'm creeping around quietly now so as not to wake him as he'll go out and play now while it's cooler, usually.Darcy-may wrote: lazy bones :)hopefully you can stimulate his mind and rest his leg, i don't envy you though try to keep him rested is going to be difficult

Would definitely be tough with both of them keeping him rested! Hope Vin gets better soon!

Re: bit of a limp - update
Vin seems a bit better today. Funny enough though it turned out to be overcast and cooler today and he was happy to chill out on the sofa and rest. What a good boy!

Re: bit of a limp - update
I looked up Yumove but it seems we don't get it here. If I feel a need for it I think I'll ask my aunt to send some. I did pick up some extra salmon oil tablets for him though.janey wrote:Pleased to hear it :)Xx

Re: bit of a limp - update
Vinny's little limp is a bit odd. He seems ok in the mornings and as the day goes on just looks stiff. I've managed to rest him for a couple of days now.
Today is really hot and the limp looks really awkward. Poor thing. I did get some fish oil tablets for him and have upped his coconut and olive oils too. I think I will try and get my aunt to send me some Yumove to try as Janey suggested.

Re: bit of a limp - update
Not yet no, I have no idea why they won't xray before 2 years of age. I'm hoping it's some sort of puppy growing pains - been reading up on that. Vin is a massive boy in height and width, but I'm doing well at keeping his weight down etc so as not to place any pressure on joints. But I know it's no good trying to self-diagnose.
Another thing - sometimes when he sits or lies still an arm or leg will shake. Vet says this is a growth thing on larger-built dogs but can also mean join problems when they're older.

Just gonna have to see how it goes, if it does carry on though I would possibly get a second opinion, but lets hope it doesn't come to that Xx
