Vaccinations and leaving
Henry had his 2nd vaccine today and I thought after a week he would be good to go out the house for walks but the vet said I should wait til the 4 month injections?? What did you do? Thank you for reading.

Re: Vaccinations and leaving
The vaccinations in Australia are different than in England. You have an extra set of jabs at 4 months old, and I believe that vets over there recommend keeping them in until after those?

Re: Vaccinations and leaving
Hi Rachel, sorry I should have elaborated more, the second set of vaccinations were when we had him, he had his first lot before we got him, so there is usually one more vaccination he will receive then you will be able to take him out, the vet's advice is right, I would refrain from taking him out of the house until his next vaccine Hope this helps!

Re: Vaccinations and leaving
Yes the vet did recommend that. But to keep a dog inside or the same back yard for 4 months is crazy to me. The only dog he has been around is my brothers but he is a very dominate to him and also the ones that walk past my house.

Re: Vaccinations and leaving
Thanks Maria, I just sorta think that I am told to socialise him so he isn't aggressive so I wanna do that. In Australia the 3 month vaccine is for parvio which is my main concern.

Re: Vaccinations and leaving
Im also in Australia as well, I can understand where your coming from regarding keeping them in for 4 months but in all honesty it does go really quick, if we did take Rocky any where with us, he wasn't put on the ground or left alone, it was straight in the house at my mums or at a friends house
If Henry is 12 weeks at the moment its only another month which will fly by....they grow too quickly!

Re: Vaccinations and leaving
Pebbles had her 1st vaccin. at 8 weeks and the 2nd one at 10 weeks. I waited a whole week following the second one before taking her out.
Vet had said to wait two weeks but i thought that was a bit much. I just made sure to walk her on clean paths (with no dog poo around) and i didn't let sniff with other dogs for an extra week.
We only have two vaccinations here in the UK, usually before 3 months of age.

Re: Vaccinations and leaving
We also have 4 sets of injections here, but we're allowed to take them out a week or so after the third set. While we waited though we did carry Vinny around with us so he got used to sights and sounds and people stopping to touch him. It worked amazingly as he is the most calm, un-reactive young man! In that way, Roxy got her walks and Vin got used to seeing how she does it!

Thanks for the advice, I will just keep taking him around my brothers dog, maybe if I take him to their backyard it will go better
