Re: Flea treatment?!?
Most people dont flea unless they actually have fleas, saves putting chemicals on them unnecessarily

Re: Flea treatment?!?
normally the first thing you do is you can get a flea shampoo and wash the dog and kill the ones on it,then if you have bedding like blanket etc you can also wash it in the shampoo as well, then you wait 2 days because the treatments work best when they are not on clean skin. buy a flea treatment from vets ,pet shop to keep under control otherwise they will come back, the oil treatments are good like frontline put it on once a month on the neck and its also water resistant which will still work if your dog gets wet.I was always taught this when i worked in the pet indistry.

Re: Flea treatment?!?
Before I joined here I flea'd darcy with advocate, now I don't use anything, unless she's got them of course, give your vet a call and see what he/she says is the best.

Re: Flea treatment?!?
I used to use Advocate but hearing its not good to keep putting it on, I now only use Frontline if he has fleas.
Though have been told by the vets recently that there are a considerable amount of ticks and mites around, and as I walk a lot in the woods have been doing one monthly. Garlic on food will help keep fleas away also.

Re: Flea treatment?!?
We get Effipro which is a spot on treatment for fleas and ticks from Animed online. The pack contains 4 pipettes of treatment, the doseage is calculated on the dogs weight, we get the medium one which is for dogs weighing 10 - 20 kg. The pack costs £11.80.
I have included the link below:

Re: Flea treatment?!?
Where's he picking them up from? He shouldn't be getting them continuously.
Have you treated all of his bedding, plus your carpets & furniture?

Re: Flea treatment?!?
Just do't use spot on from stores, like dr martin ones. They are leathal to the dogs not the fleas.

Re: Flea treatment?!?
I'd treat the cats to be honest! A good monthly spot on will stop them infesting your dog & your home! Ask your vet for their recommendations.Charrr wrote:I have cats and they bring them back or the field where we walk . I just need something I can put on him all the time

Re: Flea treatment?!?
We use frontline for our dogs and our cats. We have cattle and sheep grazing next to our property so we treat our animals regularly.

Re: Flea treatment?!?
You need to treat the cats and Wiz. You will also have to treat the house or the problem will reoccur. You may have to get the council to fumigate the house to get rid of them. I had to do this once and I haven't had a problem since

Re: Flea treatment?!?
I use the site petfleas.co.uk - I buy Indorex for the house (which claims to last 12mth) and I get the equivalent of frontline called Flevox. Im a cat & staffy owner so have the same problem. Flevox last 8wks for dogs and 4 for cats. They are the best prices I have found on there and sell other things with loads of advice. They deliver quickly aswell.

Re: Flea treatment?!?
If you use a spot on treatment for both dogs & cats, then make sure that you buy the right ones! There are ingredients in the dog spot on treatments that are lethal to cats, and probably vice versa!

Re: Flea treatment?!?
I use Comfortis as needed ... it is a bit pricey but it works very well both for the fleas that are on them and ones they get on them. You can get it for dogs and cats.
