Best brush
Can I have peoples opinions on what brush is best to use on Alfie. He is malting big time and at the moment we have a rubber glove brush but its crap.
What do you guys use?
Cheers

Re: Best brush
For shedding, something like a Furminator rake, which has very densely-packed teeth, similar to a louse comb, to catch dead hair. These are often made of metal, so you should only ever use it lightly, to ensure that it doesn't scratch the skin. If in doubt, test the pressure on your inner arm first.

We have a furminator but I've not used it because its so scary well at least Darcy thinks so we also have a kong zoom groom, which is ok, but I tend to use a rubber glove or a cheap brush I picked up of the market

Re: Best brush
There's one of those in Dempsey's grooming kit, Kathy. I use it for loosening up the hairs before I use his other brushes, but on a staffy it would probably be fine on its own.

Re: Best brush
I had a rubber one like that for Bandit & as Eleanor says, we also have one for Dempsey. However, although it loosens the hair it doesn't then remove it from the body (it'll get some, but not all!).
I use a stiff-ish bristle brush after the rubber mitt or the furminator.

My confession is that I don't really brush Molly much at all! We shave our spaniel over the summer and brush him year round with a pet hair loop which is fantastic as his malting is horrendous! Moll is a dream in comparison

Re: Best brush
I use a mix of the rubber pad like kathy and a shedding blade when they blow there coats. You have to be careful with the shedding blade though as you can end up with bald bits.... sorry marley

Grooming is a must even for dogs with short coats that don't moult much. It stimulates the skin & improves the health of the coat.
Yes, but I think yours have the husky coat thickness, don't they?Nathan wrote:I use a mix of the rubber pad like kathy and a shedding blade when they blow there coats. You have to be careful with the shedding blade though as you can end up with bald bits.... sorry marley

Re: Best brush
I have one similar to Kathy's but in the shape of a mitt. The reverse side is like a felt pad which removes the hair after the rubber side loosens it. It was originally used on our Burmese cats years ago and because we're so bad to Bacchus we didn't bother to buy him his own, just gave him a hand-me-down.

Re: Best brush
yeah its real dense but no where near as long. the front is denser than the back as well. Marley loves the blade and will lay napping his eyes which is why he looked like he lost 10 kilo in an afternoon early this year lol. Laska however has a look on her face like I've just pulled out a chainsaw to groom her with.Caryll wrote:Grooming is a must even for dogs with short coats that don't moult much. Re: Best brush
Furminator here too, Rocky is making my white tiles look black at the moment with his malting, but the furminator works great.
