Thinking of adoption??
Hi, as you all know my bronson is 5 months old now and I'm thinking of adopting a 6 month old puppy. She is gorgeous!! the place were Ive been looking at neuteres the dogs, gives injections and microchips which is good cus I had no thoughts of breeding!... I'm just a little worried because I wouldn't want bronson getting jealous they would both be treated the same and he is really good with other dogs!! Any advice please

Re: Thinking of adoption??
It is generally better to wait until one dog is significantly older say 18months. Two dogs of the same age tend to think they are litter mates and can become aggressive to eachother. Teaching one pup is hard enough but teaching two that are trying to either fight or play all the time will be a nightmare. Work on bronson for now and get him to the point were he will be a good example to another pup then youre time training the new pup will be much easier.

Re: Thinking of adoption??
When we got Sarge, they suggested that we bring maxi along to meet and play to make sure they like each other. We were originally going to get Sargey's best friend at the shelter 'pop-eye' however max did not like him one bit which is strange maxi usually likes other dogs. But after a few different tries with different dogs. Maxi chose Sarge to be his new brother =)

Re: Thinking of adoption??
Yeah they said to me to take him down and we can walk them both together, he loves to play and i decided that it would be nice to get him a play mate just don't want him feeling pushed out that's all

Yes ot's best to wait if you want another puppy, or you could consider an older dog?

Re: Thinking of adoption??
Best to wait until bronson is about 18 months to introduce a friend, or as saz said you could rescue an older pooch

Yeah will have a look... Do you think an older dog will help him?? Even though he's really good now and has learnt a lot

Re: Thinking of adoption??
Not necessarily, the older dog may have little to no training and will not be traiend to your own ways thus may distract your pup and take you all to stage 1 again lol i really think the best option is waiting and have him as you want him then decide if you want another puppy.
