Adoption
Hello to all , im wondering if my girlfriend decides to get a staffy , if its possible to adopt one .. i mean there are so many staffies without family , why we should get one from a pet shop when we can save one ?? the only problem is that we live in greece , maybe if we pay the fee of the plane etc.. all of the cost .. ? is it possible? we dont have any stafford rescue place-team here in greece .. sorry for my bad english

Re: Adoption
I haven't ever heard of this happening and I doubt that a rescue centre here in England would re-home a dog abroad. Its certainly a lovely idea though.

yes it is .. the only reason i took a puppy from a breeder is that we dont have any stafford here to rescue .. thats a good thing actually ... but in other countries there are many staffies without family .. so if mariette decides to adopt one i can contact you ?? if the cost is around 1000 euro why not then ?? the cost is the same if your going to buy one ..

Re: Adoption
As janey says its a lovely idea but i dont really think its a viable option. Good luck in your search for one to adopt in your own country though x

Re: Adoption
I'v heard of many rescues flying or driving dogs abroad to new homes but please do not get one from a pet shop, large amount of puppies in pet shops are from puppy mills and you'll end up with a very unhealthy unhappy and unsocialised traumered pup. Its just a case of doing your research I don't think RSPCA do that kind of rehoming and it is usually actually breed rescues who do or those not init for the money.
Good luck.

Re: Adoption
well , pet shops should sell only dog food toys etc.. dog breeding is not a toy factory or w/e your right , let breeders do that job , my opinion is whoever wants to get a dog should go to a breeder or he should adopt one .. the reason i asked for a staff from another country is because we dont have staffs without family .. sorry again for my bad english .. but we dont have a greek forum for this lovely breed ..

Re: Adoption
No what i meant is if you look at certain Staff rescue sites and organisation those are the ones who sometimes consider homes abroad just as long as they know you have some good shelters near you who roughly believe in the same type of things as they do and what they wish to acomplish e.g no kill shelter or a heartful shelter and who could keep them informed.
Have you tried your local shelters I'm sure there are staffs or staff X's in there who need a home just not as many as other countries.

Re: Adoption
Greece shelter allow adoptions abroad so i don't see why they won't do it the other way around but when i'v looked at many shelters in Greece they have ALL said that they are having a problem with rabies and strays which is why most of their shelters have quaratined dogs going to new homes abroad and have provided medical documents such as dog passports. So maybe other shelters wont because of that risk. I guess the only way you are going to fine out is if you contact abroad shelters by email and asking.

Re: Adoption
we have shelters , we dont have staff's to rescue .. thing is that we prefer to adopt a stafford instead of buying one .. thats all .. and if you make a research you will see that we dont have any staff to rescue at all here in greece ..

Re: Adoption
I doubt that the rescue kennels here would send their dogs abroad as they can't then keep track of it, or do any of the home checks that they would normally do before someone adopts a dog.
I really don't know what to sugest.

Re: Adoption
Is it definately a Staffy that you want? Maybe you could adopt another breed of dog in Greece and the extra you would have been willing to pay to transport the dog etc... donate that to a staffy rescue in the uk?
StaffieRescue where I volunteer are overwhelmed at the moment with the number of dogs needing help. Any donations would be put to very good use saving dogs lives.
I know StaffieRescue won't rehome a dog without first doing a home visit.
