staffy pup prices
Far out! We have been pondering getting a baby brother for Jethro.. he is not getting any younger, and I can tell you when he goes me and my hubby are going to be cot cases!! That doggie is everything to us!
Anyway I got in touch with a couple of breeders who are on the Western Australian Staffy Club website, just really a query at the moment..... One just got back to me, they have some puppies just born, that they will be selling for pets only, so they have to get desexed, which is fine by me as all my dogs always are. Anyway they said they will microchip and give them their first course of needles.. the price.. $1200 a puppy! I nearly had a heart attack! I know I have had Jethro nearly 12 years but he was only $250..... I have a feeling some people are taking advantage of the fact that staffys are very very popular over here in Australia. And there is no way I would pay that sort of price. Do you think I am being a jew? What sort of prices have you paid for your staffy? There must be people out there making alot of money! I hate getting ripped off.. and to me that's what that is! Comments please!!

Re: staffy pup prices
wow.. that is a lot of loot! 1000 pounds!!
Yes we are not rushing in to anything.. keeping all our options open. We are in no hurry at the moment.. hoping Jethro still has alot of years left in him!
The reason we want to get a pup is because we have pet sheep, chooks and a goat. Also heaps of wildlife around frogs, kangaroos ,lizards etc, and we are surrounded by herds of cattle from our neighbours...this way the pup will grow up like Jethro ( hopefully) and look at all these animals as friends! Jethro mingles with all our pets...I think he thinks of them as his brothers and sisters!! And we can mold the pup into what we want..well that is the plan anyway!!
The only thing that we are really sure of is that we are going to get a staffy that is a different colour to Jethro.. I couldn't bear to look at a staffy for the next how ever many years that looked like Jethro.. there will only ever be one Jethro!
Yes I understand about the price.. I suppose they think if they charge a fortune the pup should go to a great home as that is a lot of money to fork out in the first place. But over here I have to admit every 3rd dog in rescue centres are pure bred.. so there really is no guarantees is there. But you never really see many purebred staffys at rescue centres... There is a staffy rescue interstate but they will not rehome their dogs interstate as they have had too many returned. So as much as I would love to give a rescue staffy a home.. I can't see that happening!

Re: staffy pup prices
I think considering that the puppies are being sold as 'pet only' and that the breeders want them to be desexed its not a fair price at all. Pet only also means they cannot be shown and will have an endorsement on their KC papers. I know you dont want to breed but its just the principle. Still the prices vary dramatically in each country.
In England you can pick up a staff pup cheap but thats because there are so many and this is their country of origin after all! I sell my pups for £450 with first injection, puppy pack, free insurance and all health tests. I also would not put an endorsement on somebody's puppy unless I felt there was a good reason they shouldnt be bred (genetic defect such as cleft pallette or health issue).

Re: staffy pup prices
yeah..... I just get the feeling there are alot of people cashing in on the popularity of the staffy breed here in Australia.
all we want is a staffy pup to love and cherish for as many years as possible but we don't want to take out a second mortgage to be able to afford him !!

I could be way off the mark but I think if there for a pet they have to be desexed before being rehomed hence they are pets and not to be breed.

Re: staffy pup prices
Over here there are no laws about desexing pets, it is up to the individual...
I thought it might be that they don't want anyone breeding and using their bloodlines. I just went on the add on the web site and the 2 females are already on hold! Only the boys left!

well Janey, we aren't going to get one of these staffys ,that's for sure..... the price is just too over the top ( for us anyway )
we aren't in any hurry, the right one will come along sooner or later....so until then we will just play it by ear....

I am always checking the shelter and dog home web sites... there are hardly ever staffys over here in Western Australia.... they all seem to be the other side of Australia ....... wish Australia wasn't such a big place.. might make it easier!

..well you won't believe this..
I just googled and Australia is 7.74 million square kilometres!!!
..and England fits into it 58 times !!!!
the mind boggles !!!
so yes there are plenty of unwanted staffys looking for homes over east.. but they are a LONG way from where I live !!

Re: staffy pup prices
thanks.. I have actually already looked at those dogs a few times.. I like Benson and Mack out of all of them. Tony has his heart set on a pure staffy.. I feel so sorry for the dogs you sent me.. just hope and pray they find a great home.
Feel free to send me more links.. I may have overlooked something..
I normally check out Pet Rescue, RSPCA, Shenton Park Dog Refuge, Swan Animal Haven..all Western Australian centres..
but don't let your boss catch you doing this..don't want to get you into trouble.
There is a staffy rescue centre in Victoria..they have some lovely doggies too...
* sigh * .......

Re: staffy pup prices
i must say i got lucky with price when it came to getting hooch and jake... i was saving up as best i could and had the dog run all ready and everything... thursday night two weeks ago was looking online as usual and seeing staffs going for €400 some €250 but i knew i wanted to get two. this was still out of my price range... next thing i see an ad for staff pups 4 males let €100 each. next morning at work i was in the truck and parked up i rang this guy and ask him about them pups. Told me how old they were and where he lived and i could see the parents and all that. I asked him if i took two could we do a deal. he says ya we'll do something.
So i went out with my girlfirend and it turned out to be a guy i was motorcross racing with about three weeks before. he had his two staffs with him and the bitch was not long after pups. I didnt even ask him about them cause i didnt have the run finished at the time. Anyway we were talking about bikes and that and then i said ill take two picked them and got him down to €140 for the two boys. €160 saved job done. Turns out he never told his parents he was breeding them so he was told to sell them as soon as they were old enough and had all injections and wormed done. They actually had four staffs so knew what they were doing. I love the two boys but i cant justify these prices. it reall is madness

Re: staffy pup prices
..great story ..
there was a 5 month old staffy pup in the paper a few weeks ago... was used to farm animals ( perfect for us!! ) but the people could no longer keep him. Phoned up, but couldn't get to see him till the next day as we lived a fair way from them. By the next day he had gone.. so we are hoping that maybe something like that might happen again ! But we aren't in any particular hurry.....

Re: staffy pup prices
I paid £250 for Jake, that was 5 years ago though, and I thought it was a bargain because apparently "reds" were rarely seen. (And he was the runt of a litter of 3).
When I seen prices recently was totally amazed the difference in price due to colour, nearly £1000 for a blue, and about £400-750 for any other colour. I couldn't imagine life without him, even though he's a cheeky wee horror sometimes.
and btw, GO JETHRO!!!!! lol, he'll be around for a good while yet xxx

Re: staffy pup prices
Vanessa i have seen the same here in Brissy in fact there were some in the paper for $2000 each(blue from a pedigree line), Nitro cost me $150 as he was 4 months when i got him and his tail was crooked and my little guy Harley cost me $800 from a breeder, he was the first litter. Ask to see the parents pedigree papers. Most of the time the ones sold for pets are either inbred(Harley has some inbreeding in his lines) or they don't want you to use them for shows or breeding.

Re: staffy pup prices
Yes, linebreeding is used to 'cement' certain characteristics in the pups. Inbreeding is father/daughter, mother/son, brother/sister.
