Raw meat prices
For anyone who reads the board all the time youl see i have been posting about my pups lack of eatting, take today for example,i give him sardines in tomato sauce (he loves that) with his jwb dry food around 11 he doesnt eat early in the morning no more he took two bites,i topped up his bowl again now with more jwb and added some gravy,he took a bite and now hes away out the back to play.
You cant say ' he will eat when hes hungary because he wont and any food he will eat threw out the day means he will be under eating every single day.
I think my best option now is to get him on raw food, where do you guys get your faw feed from and how much does that cost a week.

Re: Raw meat prices
I personally order in bulk from DAF and add bits i get in the knock off bin at the supermarket. I also get freebies from butchers and hunters.
It costs me an average of £15 a months to feed the boys

While i should be buying the bigger bag of james well beloved i have only been buying the 2.5kg bags each time which cost me £9 every 9 or 10 days i think,so it seems along with the benefits of raw food i would also be saving myself loads of money.
Have you any other advice on raw food,as there anything else that you need to by for a dog or is raw food a complete diet, also any good things to buy on that website you would recommend,i have had a quick look on it now and will do again after i type this
thanks

Re: Raw meat prices
I order from manifold valley meats and I spend about £60-£70 and that will last my 4 dogs about 7-8 weeks.

A raw diet is complete if it's balanced and has a good variety.
I would definitely recommend doing research before you start and have a look at these links
www.preymodelraw.com

meal ideas

One thing i would always recommend is IF you can buy in bulk, you save so much money in doing so

Re: Raw meat prices
So far I have ordered from They Love It and Naturally Healthy Dogs (who i think are supplied by DAF), also sprats/sardines from supermarket and any meat going cheap. I quickly found that I needed a separate freezer though. I switched to raw about 6 weeks ago and haven't looked back, I spend about 25 pound a month which includes her training treats of dried meat. Good luck!

Re: Raw meat prices
Right giving cooked and raw is VERY different.
Even if he can't eat cooked chicken he can be totally fine on raw the protein is different.
Don't mix dry and raw they digest at different rates and can cause belly upsets, if you want to mix, give dry for one meal and raw the other meal in a day

Re: Raw meat prices
yep i'm afraid, alot of dogs are fine mixing dry and raw but it isn't recommended due to the chance of belly upsets.
What it is, is dry take up to 12+hours to digest whereas raw is more like 4-6 hours. So the dry food holds the raw up in the stomach causing bacteria on it to grow and can make your dog ill

Re: Raw meat prices
you could try the one meal of dry and one meal of raw a day.
You can mix dry and raw no one can stop you but you do run the risk of Brox getting poorly from it so it's up to you

Re: Raw meat prices
Brox's health is the upmost importance to me,il never do anything that mite go against that.
Could you give me a random list of raw foods that mite be more suitable to a puppy or does it not matter what age the puppy is,but anyway a wee list would be nice so i could pick some out of it to buy for him,i cant be bothered with the stress broxi gives me when he doesnt eat.
His farts are so smelly today now lol.
I bought mince beef today by the way

A puppy can eat all meat and bones the same as an adult dog so don't worry there.
The thing is when you swap onto a raw diet is not to just jump in and give all foods straight away, you need to introduce foods slowly
A good guide is to add one new food every 1-2 weeks when you get solid stool, and start with blander foods first
So week 1 chicken only
week 2 add tripe
week 3 add turkey
week 4 add lamb
week 5 add fish
week 6 add pork
week 7 add beef
week 8 add offal
So as you can see you start with blander white meat and moving onto richer red meat, and doing it this way you can see if any meat doesn't agree with him or he has an allergy
