ARGH! Partners and dogs?!
SO..
Slight bone of contention here, and wondered if any of you guys had the same problems and if so, how you managed to solve it.
My OH has never had dogs before, and though we've been together for almost a year he's still finding the tie a real struggle. If I've had to leave Biscuit for a full working day, there is no way that I'll be leaving her again in the evening.. just not happening. If Biscuit has had people with her all day, then of course i'm happy to plan to do something in the evening but I won't leave her all day and then all night in a million years. My OH still continues to ask if we can go to this, that and the other.. constantly moaning that we can't go away for the weekend as there's no-one that we can leave her with.. I'm more than happy to go away for the weekend and bring bis.. but she cannot go into kennels due to her behaviour and I don't know anybody sensible enough to both look after and exercise her if we were to go away.
He's a star with her in general and loves her to bits.. but he is entirely clueless about dogs and just does not see a problem with leaving her all the time. I'm really starting to lose my patience and if he doesn't wise up he may just end up with my size 5 up his jacksy!!!

1. Why doesn't he want to take Bis?

Ah rach I can feel your pain as I had a little of this initially as OH thought we didn't need a dog pfft what does he know, he thought that she'd hold us back and stop us doing things when in fact we now do more since we got her, we've still been on holiday, we go out for meals (and take her with us) and we have weekends away but with her very very early days, as much as I love my OH he was told in no uncertain terms, don't make me choose!!! She will win

Relationshipos with animals has always been easier to handle than once with humans. We don't go out much so can't be much help in the going out or away.
Somehow it is easier to do if all is on Board

Re: ARGH! Partners and dogs?!
ahh you guys! It's a really tough one as Bis doesn't cope well in social situations.. we found one pub near us that allows dogs but everybody crowds there and she'd just lose the plot so it's not like we can even take her out with us for meals etc. He just doesn't want to spend a whole weekend away dog walking, he's much more of a city person Hayley you're a star least I'm not the only one!! He knows full well there's no competition ha!

My OH is awesome so can't really comment, we both grew up with a multiple dog house, holidays meant taking the dogs, and me and him have wanted dogs for years.

Well from a blokes point of view I would marry any one of you girls as you all sound like my perfect partner . Jo is a super mum to the kids and would never leave them in kennels and such but on the other hand keeps reminding me about the foreign holidays we are missing out on

I feel quite lucky really because as much as I do moan about my hubby (yes I know I do) he loves our Rocky as much as I do. Since Rocky has been with us which is nearly 3 years we have not been out for day without him being with us. In fact we just haven't been out for a whole day in that time.
I could not imagine putting him (Rocky that is) in kennels although I would consider leaving hubby there for a day or 2

Haha.
I did the whole dating game again recently and dogs and freedom, dogs and shedding hair, and how much money do you earn and how can I help you spend it were the three dominant conversation pieces.

Re: ARGH! Partners and dogs?!
Guess I'm lucky my new fella has dogs who live with his dad (he is in the Navy so away a fair bit) and he doesn't mind Ledger in fact it's me that is more bothered by Ledgers need to be the centre of attention now a new person comes into the house also a bit miffed he encourages Paul to throw the tennis ball for him and has no interest when I throw it I am also lucky tho I now have a dog walker I trust who does weekend dog sitting and also got Ledger off on a Barking Mad holiday with a foster family so I do have options
