can anybody please tell me why they do it?

They beat you up so that they can have the power they crave. Incidently the verbal scars NEVER heal. Other people can tell you they love you and inside you wait for them to snap, to once again hurt you because he said its all your good for. It never stop hurting.

Nicolene I am still getting it not from my OH I hasten add, I have been aware of it since I was very very young it will always be with me you can't just smooth over broken plaster

It is so sad to hear of others here who have suffered as well, may only be virtual friends but you are all better than some of my so called friends here

I think it is down to arrogance and too much idea of themselves and can’t handle seeing anybody else.

My OH unfortunately is the person that has to deal with the trust and self image issues that this other person left me with. The scars left make one question not just yourself but oher people around you. In my case my abusive ex boyfriend just dropped me for his next victim.

The beatings leave physical woundds that go away. The verbal marks leave invisible scars.
