Weed killer
Our garden is entirely gravel, and has weeds. Is there a weed killer that is safe for dogs? Bruno snuffles and licks the stones (trying to get him out of it) so I don't want to use something that could harm him.
If we weren't renting I'd get the garden turfed but as it's not ours we're reluctant to spend that much to benefit someone else.
We'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Re: Weed killer
Well, there's things like Roundup Fast Action:

But it's only safe once it's dry. If I were you, I'd ask at a local pet shop or even your local vet for advice before you use any.

Re: Weed killer
I would suggest either pulling the weeds up by hand if they're big enough (I know it's a pain!) or vaporising them with a little flame-thrower device called a Weed Wand (which is what I do).

Re: Weed killer
Use hot water! Poor boiling water on weeds and they'll be dead in a couple of days.

Re: Weed killer
I don't use any weed killers as said just keep them under by pulling them out.
Would defo check before you use anything, boiling water idea sounds worth a try. x

I just want to point out that if he is licking stones and gravel there is a huge likelyhood he is ingesting them too. Be very very aware of this as it can kill your dog if any stones get stuck in his system or tear his insides.

Re: Weed killer
I tend to go for boiling water once the weed has been pulled up too. There are pet friendly weed killers out there just do a quick search at amazon.

Re: Weed killer
As Lynda suggested, use a weed burner, lidls often do them. Totally safe

Re: Weed killer
I do like the boiling water idea - never thought of it. I'm going to try it; cheaper than canisters of butane/propane.

Re: Weed killer
I've seen it suggested a few times , the net also has a few recipes for pet friendly home made weed killers , but I did use round up last time and then kept the kids out of the garden overnight as per instructions to be sure ( used it about 3 pm ) believe for maximum effect whatever it is you have to use it during the daytime while they are in the growth phase as they shut down on an evening so apparently their defences are higherLynda wrote:I do like the boiling water idea - never thought of it. I've not tried any of these myself but maybe worth a go
