killer dog meets killer chicken!
We have 2 hens left both of them about 4/5months old now and I let them free range in the garden when Milo is in. I forgot for the first time today and he met them face to face without the protection of the wire I thought he might chase them as he is so crazy for playtime with anyone and couldn't be sure he's not hurt them even is it was accidental so not given him the opportunity.
I turned round to see him quietly going to say hello so left him to it and the most friendliest hen in the world (follows us in the garden-we raised her from a chick) turned on him charging with her neck feathers ruffled out and he wet himself and ran in lol!! I might just let them mix in future, I'm sure the friendliest hen in the world can handle herself against a * staff.

Moo would have killed it!
I wouldn't advise leaving them be together, accidents can happen. Xx
Saying that, from experience I have been told if they smell of the home and not prey they won't touch them. Not a risk I would take though!

Please be careful, the hen had the element of surprise in her favour this time, next time could be a totally different encounter.

big girls' blouse indeed! I will watch them together and see how things go. He licks the rear ends of our baby guinea pigs. but I've not let him meet them in loose terms. nor do I plan to yet. That said our old dogs, a staff. and JRT would run loose in our garden with our other guinea pigs and rabbit. I even have a picture of our staff nose to nose with one of my pet mice. If I had a scanner I'd put it on here! x

yeh i love it when they meet and get on with other animals. if you own other animals it makes for easier and more pleasent living and its funny watching them all. our last dog a GSD loved the gerbils but the guinea pig frightened him

Hi Lizzie, you are totally right and I'm not pushing things, today was a total c*ck up and obv. not intended, my own wrong doing but he does seem very gentle with the GP's and I am not opposed to the idea. We'll see I'm not planning anytime soon lol!

Re: killer dog meets killer chicken!
One of my earlier staffs caught a rabbit when we were out walking the fields, he had it in his mouth and when I told him to drop it he just put it down and the rabbit ran off.
His sister killed all of our chickens that we kept in a walled in garden when we unfortuntely left the door ajar one afternoon.
Both were regularly beaten up by our cat who boxed their ears to teach them respect

not good re hens, she must have been crossed with a fox! Wow your other staff. was good though if he got as far as getting it in it's actual mouth, I'm impressed. My friends' JRT ?x staff used to catch rabbits and squirrels fairly regularly on out walks together but not now she'sold and passed it she still dreams of it though I'm sure as she squeals and her legs go lol!
