Teeth - help
Lily has always been a licker, if you put your hand towards her she will lick. She uses her mouth quite a lot, a bit like an extra paw - she will try to grab your hand with her mouth but she will do it quickly, a bit like a crocodile snap. She is becoming very over enthusiastic now and I sometimes feel her teeth. Saying a firm no does not work - has anyone had any experience of this. Thanks

Re: Teeth - help
Darcy can sometimes get a little mouthy during play, usually a 'enough' is enough to stop it, occasionally lately though ill sit her and calm her until she listens, I think sometimes they're just testing to see what they can get away with, just be firm and consistent with her. I hope this helps

I hope so Hayley - Lily does it mostly during cuddles and I am sure she does it for more attention but I will continue being firm.

Re: Teeth - help
Hiya Pollyanna,
When we got Bruno is was quite mouthy and a bit humpy! I read somewhere that by yelping or a high pitch oww makes them learn to stop. Supposedly when in a pack and if one is a bit rough the pups yelp as a signal that the game has gone to far. We did this for a couple of weeks and it stopped. Most people laugh when the imagine me trying to yelp like a puppy but it worked. When I was doing it you see in his face that he knew. It's happened a couple of times when he's been playing with Bella as well and he stops straight away.
As ever with dogs, anything is worth a try!

Re: Teeth - help
Decide which word to use to stop it and stick to using this word. You will get there with persistance.

Frankie does it to my OH if he stops rubbing his belly!! He gets told 'enough' and gets no attention until he stops.

Chiquito is very mouthy when I first get home ... he does not mean to hurt, however jumps up to grab your arm and pulls it down to him which is rather painful!! Have gone back to turning my back and crossing my arms until he calms down/stops as the usual 'stop' command I use was not working for this ... the ignoring is working well, with a stop reminder if he mouths once he is sitting and I pat him
