I got a nee staffy puppy fee days ago and im sure some of u have already seen my previous post welcoming him to the fam. Anyways ... I got ghim early than i shud have 5-6 weeks old... He loves to bite as puppys do. I know i cant start training immediately as i want him to settle first so is there any games i can play with him as he cries alot to get up on the sofa and my mrs thinkin he cute all the time lifts him!!! Which has resulted in him yelping until he is lifted..
Plz help

Re: new starts
Awww he is so young! They should be with their mom and litter mates until they are at least 8-10 weeks old! Why did you get him so early?

Re: new starts
Aww he's still very much a baby and should still be with his litter mates and mummy what was the reason for the breeder giving him up so early? He'd have learnt bite inhibition and doggy manners from his family which he can't do now, have a read through this it'll help :- http://staffy-bull-terrier.com/stop_your_staffy_puppy_biting

Re: new starts
If you follow the links shown by the others in this thread, it should help. As for bathing, I wouldn't do it until he's settled in properly and trusts you. Otherwise it could cause him to develop a fear of bathing and/or water.

Re: new starts
I wouldn't bath him yet either. 5 years ago when my other puppy was about 9 weeks old he fell into the pond in my mums garden so of course we had to give him a bath!
He won't go near water now and hates the bath. It's better to build a positive association with the bath than a bad one.
Ps. We put a cover on the pond right after too...

I wouldn't give him a bath! There is really no reason to unless he rolls in poo or something! Gwen is 7 months old and we just gave her first bath a week ago! You don't need to give him a bath anytime soon!

Re: new starts
Aww he's just a baby and to young to be without his mam..me I would also cuddle him a lot. But I'd get a blanket for his space on couch maybe. He's not to young to gently train not to bite by yelping when he does and stop playing a bit. Might be idea to get him a sturdy teddy as well to cuddle up to..use wet wipes to clean down

Re: new starts
I notice you have another dog though, this will be good for the socialisation. As you've got him so young I would get him out on walks and meeting other dogs ASAP. You can give his first injection from 6 weeks, then the second at 8 and have him out and about by 9. Although this might vary depending on what type of vaccination your vets uses.
