Not what we wanted to hear :(
Hi everyone it's been a while since we've been on but we have been so busy!!
Marley has just turned one and four weeks ago started with a sporadic limp so we waited and checked he hadn't pulled a muscle whilst out walking, or Marley being the usual staffie wasn't giving himself a dead leg with the funny positions he sits in but today a trip to the vets was in order and he diagnosed luxating patellas in both his back legs his right side worse than the left.
We are on a weeks strict rest and some anti inflammatories if that doesn't work we have to make an appointment with the owner of the vets who's an orthopaedic specialist to discuss surgery options
So gutted for him especially as his so young, has anyone else ever had to deal with this?? X

Re: Not what we wanted to hear :(
There have been a couple of members' dogs on here who have had the operation. As far as I remember they went really well, with no problems at all.
It's really quite a straightforward operation nowadays, I think!

So sorry to hear this Helen, poor Marley.
As Kathy and Caryll mentioned, there have been 2 or 3 members whose dogs have been affected and had the op. Do read their posts on the link Kathy provided.
And do please let us know how Marley gets on with his treatment; we are all here whenever you want to talk. Get well soon Marley

Re: Not what we wanted to hear :(
They want to xray next week, unfortunatly they did make him major lame from pulling his leg around so much, but im having a thought and want to see what people think....his now on day 5 of his anti inflamitories and i have to say today i have seen an improvment ive been doing a lot of research online and as he is only grade 1 in luxating patella terms he doesnt have to have surgery but the vets seems to be aiming for that, but i want to try a route of more natural supplememts with some physio, he is having a growth spurt at the moment and i personally think this has brought on his knee problem what does everyone think of the natural verses the medical?? x

I think you need to have the x-rays, they will certainly help to guide in to what action you need to take Xx
