the popular pooh eating issue
Hi I have read a lot of threads on this forum realting to their puppies eating pooh, especially cat pooh, I read somewhere, but can't find it, something about pineapple? The gardens on my street don't have any boundaries, and there are a lot of cats, a veritable feast for Thistle, I want to let her out to 'toilet' without having her on a lead, which I have done from the start and she is learning where she is and isn't allowed to go, but if I keep my eye of the ball she is off, and knows exactly where to find the pooh, short of cleaning up all the pooh I can't stop her from doing it, she won't come when I call her, just gobbles it down as quick as you like because she knows I am going to remove her from it, giving a treat instead doesn't work, I think she thinks I'm treating her for eating it, or am I overthinking?

I would practice your commands so you can shout her over or tell her to leave it It's never been a massive problem for me but if I see her going for something and tell her to leave, she does.

I'm told that giving pineapple can stop a dog eating its own poo, but not others'!
As said, it's a matter of getting a really good "leave" command.

We use the leave it command too but there is still the odd time she'll gulp it down before I see her

ok thanks, well she's not eating her own pooh thank god and I'm still working on the leave command, but I guess it's early days, Thistle thinks 'leave' means gulp it down as quickly as possible:)
