Blood in Pooh
Hi All
My 14 week old pup has had blood in his pooh. I have been feeding him on Hill's puppy science plan. He has been tested for bacterial and parasitic infections which have proved to be negative. Whilst he was on medication the vet suggested that I feed him rice with chicken, white fish and chappie. After a couple of days there was no blood in his pooh and this continued for three days without blood. I introduced some James Well Beloved snack a jacks as a reward for training and the blood has reappeared in his pooh. I've been back to the vets and they have said they will consult with Hills to find an alternative to his normal dry food as the rice, chicken and fish diet will not have enough calories for a growing pup.
Could the dry food be irritating his intestine and has anybody experinced anything similar as we are very concerned for Bo's well being.
Best Regards
Jamie

Re: Blood in Pooh
I haven't experienced it myself, but if your looking for a different food Royal canine do a sensitivity control food which is basically chicken & rice, might be worth a thought.
I hope you get it sorted Xx

Hi x x
Willow suffers from colitus. It started when she was about six months old, a spot of blood in her poop became a panic amount in a couple of days. After antibiotics from the vets and a diet of boiled chicken and rice, I found that everytime i tried to get her back on her normal dry food the blood returned.
She is now on wagg sensitive which i soak till its soft.
I tried various degrees of dryness but the blood returns everytime, so we stay with the soft stuff which to be honest she doesn't really mind, its gone in seconds.
I hope this helps and that you find the right combo for your babe soon as i know how stressful it is x x x
Keep us posted x
Much love Su n Willow x x x

Re: Blood in Pooh
What protein was in the hill's and the snack-a-jacks? Maybe it is this thats causing the upset? have you thought about feeding a raw diet? It is very good with dogs who have food sensitivities.

Re: Blood in Pooh
If dark this means the blood loss is further up the digestive tract, bright red blood means lower down closer to the exit point
