Try using a long lead, then he has the freedom but you have the control and you can practice

Re: Stop dog to go to other dogs
Hi,
I'd train him first somewhere safe like in the garden, then somewhere safe outside and use some highly tasty meaty treats:-) I used to use boiled chicken or boiled beef for Stella and it worked really well. Now I use just "normal" treats but for the time when she was real bad (around 9-15 months of age) the meat was saving me:-)
Then I was told on a recall workshop to use a toy and make the recall more interactive by playing with her when she comes back to me; I had such a leather/furry thing to play tug of war with and it was fantastic.
And they said to stick just to one command such as "Stella, come". It helped big time as well.
Other more experienced guys here will have more info for you I am sure:-)
Good Luck!

Re: Stop dog to go to other dogs
Definitely get a long training line, they are brilliant
Practice your recall and keep him on the training line until he's 100% even with the distraction of another dog. You can't be letting him run up to other dogs (it's not good doggy mannors ) , and also he may not attack them but they could attack him.

Re: Stop dog to go to other dogs
Same as already said which is use a long line. Gives him some freedom but still gives you the chance to correct him if he tries running off until he has learnt what behaviour you require around other dogs. Then you can leave him off leash.
Sounds like he's doing really well. Well done! another well behaved staffy to boost the breed

Re: Stop dog to go to other dogs
Hi we had this problem with tash, we practiced recall everywhere and was 99% effective. its now 100 because she loves her kong squeaker balls and we get her to walk to heel for her ball and when the dog/person has gone past we throw it. It works brilliantly, the only problem is now she doesn't want to meet any other dogs just wants to play ball. she will greet them lovely if they come up though but she doesn't want to play

I bought one of these as at the moment I have a 25/30ft one. The problem is how do you keep it nicely wound up like this - I got it in a hell of a tangle the first time I took it out and haven't used it since, lol.
