Lonely Puppy Empty Lonely Puppy

Post by robynnepaige Mon Jul 22 2013, 10:41

my beautiful 7 month old staff bitch seems to be getting quite lonely at the moment, my neighbours have two dogs and willow is forever sat by the gap in the fence waiting for them to come out, me and my partner have been thinking about getting another dog to keep her conpany but are in two minds as to wether we should get an older dog, or a puppy
any ideas or thoughts are appreciated :-)

If you have the time, money and space then I don't think it really matters, most would recommend an older dog of the opposite sex though Smile

I think the rule of thumb is to wait until you dog is about two, 18 months at the earliest, have you looked for puppy classes or socialisation classes so she's got someone to play with or ask your vet is their any local walks they know of Smile

i've only ever had one dog at a time so cannot really comment on having two together.

Would you consider a rescue dog ? If so have a word with your local rescue centre and arrange to take your dog in with you when you are looking. That way the centre can match you up with a compatable dog in a controlled environment with experienced staff on hand.

yes there is a rescue centre about 40 miles away which i've been in contact with but a lot of their dogs are old, (6-9) which they had some concerns about as my pup will more than likely be too active for them

We got Chloe when Lola was 7 months! It was mainly for a playmate for her, and they've inseparable since the first moment they clapped eyes on each other Big Grin  I've found it easier with 2, although the mess they make is HUGE as they never stop tearing around together, ripping things apart - I do think they egg each other on........ Chloe was 9 weeks when we got her so there's approx 5 months between them.

I would go to a rescue and get a dog that fits with your life and gets on with your girl, no matter what the age sex
