Chewing his feet
Chiquito has chewed his feet to the point where he has bald patches on two of his back toes (on both sides), bald patches on two of his front toes (again both sides) and big sore patches down one side of the pads on one front foot and the underneath inside of one back leg.
Flea treatment done, he is wormed and the areas are being cleaned - nothing is working though, so I now have him in a cone collar (elizabethan collar) which he hates.
Anyone have any ideas health wise what it might be?
Alternatively, is it possible that it could be caused by stress/changes? (He has been away from home, with new people and away from me quite a bit just lately).

Re: Chewing his feet
It could be something simple like a yeast build up, I have heard it mentioned before.....Xx

Re: Chewing his feet
Have you tried washing his feet when you come in from walks, it could be an allergy to something ???
Could also be an effect of the stress of being away from you.

Re: Chewing his feet
I would do as Kathy said and wipe his paws after a walk with some warm water.

Darcy has yeasty paws which we give her coconut oil for, and wash her feet after walks and before bed

Re: Chewing his feet
Thanks Kathy and Mike
Have been wiping them over each time .. might have to start bathing them instead and see how he goes with that, perhaps the wiping isn't effective enough.

Do you find that Darcy chews on them all the time? It only started a little over a week ago with Chiquito he has done some real damage to his feet in that time though.
Where do you get the coconut oil from/what brand do you use?
Will definitely add in the night time wash as well.

obviously the main thing is to stop him licking and biting it so it can heal!
What i've had recommended is to keep it clean, so give it a gentle wash and dry before putting coconut oil on. Also good is to put manuka honey on it as it's antibacterial.
But it needs to be kept dry so bacteria won't be growing on it, so you could try a sock or dog boots to put on as he will likely want to like the honey off his feet. You could try a cone around his head to stop if he won't leave it alone

Re: Chewing his feet
You can also put the coconut oil on it with a couple of drops of tea tree oil, it promotes healing but tastes horrible so might stop him licking it

Re: Chewing his feet
Hi our bitch used to bite her paws quite badly just after we changed her food and after changing back she has stopped. So you could try changing her food to see if that has any affect.
