Puppy Behaviour Outside
I have a STB that’s coming up to 5 months of age. The main training issue I have with her at moment is over excitement, when passing others in the street. When she sees someone who’s generally passing, she will start to pull allot to meet them. Can anyone advice on what’s best to stop this pulling.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Puppy Behaviour Outside
Distraction is the best action try teaching the watch me command .................. make sure you have something nice in your hand , see someone coming and put her into a sit and get her to concentrate on the treat ( point to your eyes whilst sayijng watch me watch me ) gradually you can change this to watch me whilst still moving
You have to use silly voices and lots of praise , make yourself far more interesting than whatever is around , high value treats work very well for this

Completely agree with Caryll and Dave, distraction by focusing their attention on you.

Re: Puppy Behaviour Outside
The first thing is site and wait I think and watch me - absolutely - but if you are game, why not visit lots of your neighbors - as many strangers as possible for her - in advance ask them to, when they meet her, ignore her if she jumps and gets excited - then they are allowed to pet her and give her a treat when she sits nice and is calm.
That way they will also associate strangers with calmness and not feel this urge to charge up to everyone - if they know they need to be calm for attention - weve being doing it for about a week now and Cooper meets new people he sits and waits and when out on walks he only needs a gentle kiss sound and follow me command then a good boy when he gets past.
