What is normal? Empty What is normal?

Hi everyone,

Joey is now just over 5 months old and although he has calmed down a lot since we got him he still has the odd moment of biting. Its mostly with kids who try to come up and stroke him at the fence when he is in the garden but sometimes it's adults as well. He has not actually bit me for a while now but occasionally gets overexited with my partner. He doesn't really hurt anymore (a couple months ago we were covered in bites and scratches) but just worried in case he gets too exited and does hurt a child.
I know that he doesn't mean to hurt anyone and just wants to say hello and play but how do i teach him not to jump up at strangers and children and bite them. He doesn't jump up at me or my partner so why everyone else?

Any advice would be helpful

Thank you Big Grin

Definitely normal and tends to be overexcited puppyness.

If he's jumping get everyone to turn around when he does, and only fuss him when he's calmed down. If he's biting a sharp 'ahah' and remove him from the situation.

You and everyone else needs to be consistent on it and it will come eventually Smile

Cause they dont tell him not to and you don't tell him not to. When he does it, pull him away and put him in a different room.

It may help to get him to sit before letting anybody give him a fuss, and then tell them to just gently & quietly fuss him as he's in training!

Bailey is 20 months and still has the occasional bite Laughing only with me or my papa though, and never hard enough to be classed as sore! Sierra still bites a bit when she's over excited but she's getting a lot better with it!

Rocky still bites at 6months, but never hard, we are still training him and we have seen a lot of improvement, but all great advice above, and definitely patience and consistency from everyone!

Thanks everyone for the advice:)  We have started to put him in timeout when he is outside and he tries to bite someone. We bring him into his timeout place in the house.
We did have a bit of a breakthrough the other day. A man stopped to stroke Joey in the street and he didn't jump up. He stood up for a while and then sat down nicely for the man. I was really proud of him for that and give him lots of praise as did the man. Big Grin

Gwen is 7 months old and still bites us sometimes. It has definitely gotten much better. Usually it's not hard but sometimes if she gets really really excited she will start to bite down a little but stops when she's told.
