legs giving way
Lewis is 9 now and since the cold winter every now and then when stepping back, walking on uneven ground and getting excited 1 or sometimes both but mainly his right rear leg gives way. He's skipped round for months kicking his leg out but recently its got worse. He's getting stiffer which is to be expected but its very often he's hobbling with stiffness. Doesn't seem to be in pain but its slowing him down and its affecting his life. Im getting really worried about the future getting him put down maybe sooner rather than later. Anyone else seen this also anyone got any advice. Off to vets with him fri but he just panics tightens up and the vet cant examine him properly
cheers all

Re: legs giving way
Hi David , welcome to the forum from me and the kids You shouldn't stress yourself out too much until you've been to the vet , there are lots of medications out there that can help with stiffness etc . Sad fact of life but our pups do get old and like us slow up a little but hopefully your boy has plenty to go yet . Leave the diagnosis to your vet
Would love to see some pics of your boy , I have a massive soft spot for the golden oldies

Hi and welcome to the forum
Thanksfully it's not something I've had to think about yet but I'm sure there are plenty of supplements and medications available for this type of thing, your vet will be able to advise. Do let us know how you get on.
Also, when you get chance, maybe come and say hi

Re: legs giving way
Hi all thanks for the concern. Been back to the vets a second time he is 80% sure it's arthritis. He wants to try pain killers and anti inflammatory aswell as advising me to use glucosamine 3-6 months
2 questions;
Should I Buy Glucosamine with chondroitin in or not?
Instead of paying £30 per prescription can I get any other forms of these to give him?
Can't get any photos on as I dont know how. Can anyone tell me how?

Re: legs giving way
With good food, proper meds and carefulness she can go quite a while with it. My parents old gal had it for about 5 years before it became just too much for her.

I'd check with the vet first re: the chondroitin, just in case it doesn't go well with the anti inflams. The glucosamine can be bought from any online health food site, including Amazon! Do you know what strength she's been given?

Caryll do you mean what strength anti inflammatory? Its loxicom or meloxicam 1.5mg/ml

Re: legs giving way
No, I meant the glucosamine!
I don't think it matters if they get a bit too much, but if you can match it then you can get it a lot cheaper than at the vets!

I've been looking online for epiphen for ruby as 12 tablets (3days worth) have just cost me £16 from vet. I can get 112 (31days worth) for £14. Just need my vet to fax prescription.... It's worth having a look online
