Finally stopped smoking today
After a few hit and miss attempts over the last week or 2 , I am now officially a non smoker as of 10 am this morning
Mind you at the moment I have the largest 24hr nicotine patch on my arm , an electronic cigarette and loads of nicotine chewing gum in my arsenal , hope I can make it . Got through 2 important phases today , driving without smoking (electronic cigarette and the nicotine gum helped though) tonight drinking without popping outside for a smoke ( again assisted )
Tomorrow my last hurdle - the dog walking

Oh well done Dave! It's easy to give up smoking - I've done it hundreds of times! (An oldie I know, but true).

Me too Lynda , little more conviction this time though so we will see ..................... Drinking on school nights is next on the list ................ then get rid of some of my tub
Really wish Tommy was a few months older as I want to get both of them out on the bikes for a bit more exercise but he's still a little too young at 15 months and the winter is approaching

Conviction and motivation is key. I wish you all the luck in the world.
Winter is approaching? And I thought I was a pessimist!

Keep it up Dave
Won't lie it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do but also one of the best things I've achieved. Keep going mate. Might seem ages from now but you can get to the stage where you don't have to think about them all the time.
After a few days it's out your system the rest of the time it's just habbits your breaking. Amaing how many things your associate with smoking.
I used to have a fag, think about what to wear, have a fag, get clothes out, have a fag, iron them, have a fag put them on lol

Re: Finally stopped smoking today
Further to Steve's post, my uncle stopped by having a Knut and bolt and screwing and unscrewing it all the time lol
Make sure to take yourself on breaks too. I found it hard not getting my 5 mins away from everyone at work, so would nearly go back to smoking to get a break!

Re: Finally stopped smoking today
I really hope you succeed Dave - remember that this is the single most important thing you can do for your health. There is always a trigger that makes people give up and I thought I would share mine.
I had always thought I would give it up at some point but this was wearing a little thin after 30 years. However, I was decorating the living room and thought I would stop for a smoke, so standing half way up the ladder I took one out of the packet with my Solvite sticky fingers and put it between my lips and lit it. Inhaled deeply and went to take it out BUT the ciggie was stuck to my lips because of the Sovite so ended up ripping the skin of my lips, my fingers travelled down to the end of the ciggie where the end promptly shot off onto a pile of wallpaper cuttings from the night before and set fire to them!!!! I panicked and stopped from then on, no substitutes, no sly puff, nothing. I was like totally unbearable for a week, slightly better the next week and so on until it just went away. I now cannot stand the smell of smoke and get all indignant when I have to run the gauntlet of smokers at the pub door to get in. I put on a stone but still felt fitter than when I smoked, I did lose it though. You can do it, you can do it, you can do it.
What was the trigger for other reformed smokers out there ..........

Well done Dave I used the gum and it helped me. The best thing was not going to the cashpoint all the time for money!
