Surprised Chloe won't stay out of the sun!

Post by jo garnett Tue Jul 09 2013, 22:08

Lola is brindle and sensibly stays in the shade - follows the shade round the garden. Chloe meanwhile, the white and pink one! just insists on lying on her back in full sun Surprised  I put sunscreen wipes on her which she promptly wipes off on her bed then dashes outside to lay on her back, exposing her pink almost bald belly! I know the answer is to keep her in, but she just adores being in the garden.

In cases like this you really need to do whats best not what the dog wants. White dogs will generally tolerate the heat better as the light fur reflects the sun away but you're quite right that she can burn a lot easier. Use a high factor suncream and put it on her yourself and limit her to 15mins of sun then have a break

Oh Staffies and the sun............. Now Pixee cant walk far in the hot weather, but if I am not careful, she will sunbath in the sun, when shes hot, she comes in the shade to cool off, then back in the sun, back in the shade Surprised . So I just keep the kitchen door to the garden shut at times. Good luck with Chloe Big Grin and keep the suncream on Love Struck

Absolutely! She will burn if she lays out in the sun for any length of time, even with sunscreen on!

Are you able to put some kind of gazebo up or a screen of some kind, this will provide shade throughout the day. My MIL has one in her garden Rocky loves lying in the shade.

I'm quite lucky Darcy like both sun & shade, but we have a wined out awning above the living French doors, so I wind that out and Darcy lays there in the shade Big Grin a gazebo like Kathy recommended is a great idea Smile
