sticky situation!!!
I really don't know how Bruzer manages to remain alive and healthy considering the things he gets up to. This morning he found some super glue and chewed through it and glued his mouth together!! Luckily there was only a small bit on his tongue. It's mainly his teeth that were coated and iv managed to pick most of it off but his lip is destroyed in the stuff and its rock hard he doesn't appear to have swallowed any and is in no discomfort so I don't think I need to take him to the vet, iv left plenty of water out for him. It's just so heartbreakin that I'm having to put his muzzle on so much to stop him hurting himself and others. If he isn't chewing and destroying something then he is at Peppa and biting her or me driving mad. And also since iv come back from Spain ( 2 days ago) he hasn't been as affectionate as before

Re: sticky situation!!!
Oh, dear. He's a real chewer, isn't he? Dempsey's the same.
You really need to be extra vigilant with dangerous things he can get hold of. When are you muzzling him? What are you doing when you go out - is he restricted to a certain part of the house or are you crating him?
Re: coming back from Spain, he's probably sulking & it'll pass!

Re: sticky situation!!!
Yup he's punishing me alrite. Loved his little Spanish puppy treats i got him tho! He's fine now. The glue has gone and it doesn't seem to have had a lasting effect on him. I have no idea how he got hold of it. It's typical of him to find things that I never knew even existed in my room!!! At the moment he wears the muzzle when unattended or around our other dog as he keeps nipping at her neck and she's given up reprimanding him I hate putting it on him when he's at home

Re: sticky situation!!!
Forgot to mention he is un-muzzled when in my room where he sleeps when out of my room he is un-muzzled until he goes for peppa and then it goes straight on. Walks or out in the garden unattended it goes on, unless he is in the garden playing with me and I can keep an eye on him.

Re: sticky situation!!!
Never leave a dog muzzled when they are unattended, muzzles are for aggressive dogs only not to stop chewing or to punish them!!
Get a crate or baby gate and staffy proof your house and give him something nice to chew. Finding glue is not his fault..
Also look into a bit of training and more exercise. A well exercised and trained dog won't need "punished" by muzzling, thats just an easy solution to you and a bit lazy!

Really not a good idea! What would happen if he got it caught on something?

Re: sticky situation!!!
While I somewhat appreciate your response I'd like you to note that I'm on a learning curve as well and training myself to be a good owner hence why I joined this site. Callin me lazy and assuming that I'm using the muzzle as punishment is quite out of order. I use the muzzle for the PROTECTION of HIMSELF and OTHERS around him. I DO NOT punish my dogs. I teach and demonstrate with a lot of love and affection. I never said finding glue was his fault, all dogs are curious, I cannot completely staffy proof my house neither will i molly-coddle him so that he thinks this house is his palace and he rules. He is a 6 month old pup, and continues to be trained and for your information gets PLENTY of exercise

Re: sticky situation!!!
That's a good point caryll and something I fully hadn't considered, especially since the type of muzzle that it is, I didn't think I possible for it to catch. There is always someone at home, so when I said unattended i ment if we had the back door open and he was outside without 100% supervision but someone nearby. He would never be completely unattended.

Re: sticky situation!!!
Do you have a crate? Gwen is a big chewer as well. The crate really helps for times when we aren't home or when we can't be watching her every move. Mostly just to keep her safe because she would get herself into some real trouble if left home alone! Crating him may be a better idea than the muzzle for when you aren't home that way you know he is safe and can't get into anything dangerous!

Re: sticky situation!!!
Haven't got a crate yet but will getting one from my friend as her rottweiler no longer needs hers. At the moment we have a wall inclosure to keep him protected but it won't be long until he is able to jump over it!!

Re: sticky situation!!!
If I need to leave my 2 unattended I either crate one of them or put them in seperate rooms. No need for muzzles.
The only way to stop ur dog nipping ur other dog is thru training.
Your dog sounds like he has a lot of pent up energy. Exercise is a key activity for a staffy. Tire him out.
For chewing - offer a stagbar (deer antler) they are fab for chewers.
