Crying He won't listen to anyone!

Post by FangBoo Sun Jul 07 2013, 03:13

My dog, Fang, is 8 months old. I did not start training him until he was around 3 months old. But he still will not listen when I tell him to not jump up, to not run away or to go over to people or dogs on the street when I am walking him. I would love to be able to have him walk off the lead and not have to worry about him seeing a dog or person and running over to them. I also have a problem with him barking whenever i get his lead out or if he hears a knock at the door. I love my dog and I just want him to be well trained so he has more freedom. Any ideas or tips?
Thank you.

My Rocky is 6 months at the moment and im still trying to train him to the point it does drive you a little crazy, but it really takes a lot of patience, consistency, and perseverance. When you go out for a walk, take lots of treats and with the jumping maybe recognize what makes him want to jump and tell him to sit before he can get over excited about the situation, in regards to taking him off the lead it was suggested to me to get a really long training lead that you can practice recall training especially when it is busy around you with lots of distractions, this gives Fang the flexibility to be far away from you to do training like this, but you know he is still on lead and he cant run off. Rocky pulled like mad when he saw a person or another dog, I've started teaching him 'heel' and start walking the other way until he follows then walk back the other way, this has worked within a week, he just strides on past people/dogs with a wagging tail and a bit of excitement now. Good luck Smile

He's still very much a baby and as Maria says if takes time & patience, darcy in nearly 11 months and we still have some small little issues but she is generally very well behaved Smile good luck with the training. Smile
