Need walking advice
So i have been trying to walk broxi now as i have let him off the lead to much since we got him as we have a big area right behind my garden, he doesnt like the harness getting put on him he struggles abit and its something i always need my girl to help me with but once its on he seems to accept it more as i take him straight outside.
This morning i took him out but like some other times he gets easily distracted by people, its hard enough trying to get him to accept that he needs to be on a lead and then last thing i want to do is drag him abit so he gets back to walking with me.
I shouted at him when we went out because i got frustrated,i fear that my pup will turn out like my last staffy which i bought at 6months of age,she never liked the lead and always shaked when she saw it.
What advice can you give me when the dog is getting distracted by people, like today these people where standing there and talking so they wernt moving away it was only me that was trying to move away,do i just stand there for awhile till he gives up hope of going over to them.
I feel bad for shouting at him and its the last thing i want to do. do i only walk him really early in the morning and late at night so theres maybe no people around or can i sort this out any time of the day

Re: Need walking advice
you need some super high value treats and a lot of practice with the "watch me command" really stupid exciting voice , you have to make yourself more interesting than them . Try some puppy classes too , I learnt loads taking Tommy if you get a good trainer it works really well and of course brings them on leaps and bounds with the socialisation . Always stay calm , raised voices is negative reinforcement and not good but I do realise that frustration can get the better of you , been there and done that

As Dave says, use some high value treats, something he only gets on walks.
But start off indoors. Put the harness on & give a treat. Take it off.
Do that several times a day until he starts to look forward to the harness because it means treats! Then lure him outside with the harness on - maybe into the garden to start with & have a game with him.
You get the picture? It must all seem like the fun starts with the harness going on.

I cannot really think of anything else to add to that excellent advice already given above, I have no doubt you will get there, keep at it.

Re: Need walking advice
Great advice already, but the "watch me command" with a treat has always worked wonders for me.
