Not the best evening..
First topic message reminder :
Is about all I can say.....
Just taken Moo out for her usual tennis ball hunt. We get near the park and I see 7/8 kids (well 18/19) with a staff onlead. They shouted to put Moo on which I had already done and then proceeded to scream at me that the dog had already ripped another dogs face off today... and on and on, not what I expected to encounter we just diverted our route.
Moo was rather upset so we sat on the wall and I calmed her down, we carried on with our hunt. Unfortunately as we where leaving I was just about to put her back onlead and the same group of kids turned up, there dog was onlead but it all happened in a split second and it grabbed Moo by the face, I managed to grab there dog and put my hand in between the bite but I couldn't make it let go, quick thinking by them as there was a tap and they threw water over him, still didn't let go, I only had a fag which I pushed on the dogs nose and it let go.
Moo was squirting blood but the kids just rushed the dog off and apologized as they had forgotten to muzzle it.
Now Moo was off lead there's on, and I feel really really bad, she is pacing and has a cut on her cheek. One of the girls turned around and said she would do me in so to speak as I was crouched on the floor holding Moo, I pulled my phone out and said I would call the police and they all ran.
It has knocked my confidence and I am worried about Moo. Never been so worried in my life, I know she was off lead but she always is when up there. I feel I have let her down.

Re: Not the best evening..
We didn't go up there last nite, I just didn't want to risk it and didn't have the nerves. Went back this morning and she just doesn't want to do her business. She also spent the morning barking at the door.
Thanks for all your support, she is with her nanny today Xx

Oh poor Moo, hopefully once the swelling and pain goes down she will be back to her normal self, so horrible that people like that can ruin such a great place for you both. I really hope you are both okay, thoughts with you both xx

Poor moo. Maybe take some of her favourite treats next time you go to try and make her associate the park with something nice. I'm sure in time you will both get you're confidence back, it's such a shame that other people's stupidity has (temporarily) ruined such a fun place for you. How's moos wounds today?

Re: Not the best evening..
Stay positive Janey! I know Moo will soon get her confidence back. It is such a shame that you have to avoid the park/don't feel safe there especially since Moo loved to play her "find the tennis balls" game. Thinking of you both.

Re: Not the best evening..
So just a small happy update, I took her up tonight, had the guts, and we found 3 balls!! She enjoyed it but was certainly on edge the entire time. Met another of her dog friends and warned them, was nice to see them as its a little teeny tiny thing and if it had been her I doubt she would still be here, did hate having to say it was a staff.....
Anyway we thought we would share and thank you to all that gave me the confidence to return. Pants pic and one step at a time.

Janey that is fantastic, definitely a step in the right direction and so glad she got out there and found more tennis balls, and for you to go back out there is great, but don't feel bad for being nervous, its understandable that you are feeling that way, give it time, it will be your happy place again Moo looks sooo gorgeous in that pic!

Janey, I feel so bad that I had absolutely no idea about what a horrible experience you and Moo have suffered, until 5 minutes ago. I don't why or how I missed your posts until now but I did and feel terrible about it.

Re: Not the best evening..
Don't feel bad! We are ok, Moo in herself is grand just a little jumpy still. We didn't go up last night, Saturday night and living in the town center just couldn't get the courage up, but slowly slowly.....
Just gutted for her as she wouldn't say boo to a goose (well she would she would try and eat it but you know what I mean!).....

Re: Not the best evening..
Arr Janey I'm so sorry for you and Moo. What a horrible thing to happen. Your doing the right thing about going back. The sooner she starts associating the place with good things again the better. They normally get over things allot quicker than us.
Like already said, wish I lived closer cos I would go with you. Don't like the sound of them, with their snidy comments trying to get you worried, people like that wind me up The thing is people like that are normally all mouth, if they wanted to do something they would bloody do it on not talk about it. Having said that you should try and get someone to walk with. Only takes one of them to be off their face and start acting brave. Is there no one you can go with?

Re: Not the best evening..
You did well to stay calm at their comments. I do the opposite as you and start trying to kick the living dayout out of all 20 thinking I'm 10 men
Thinking may be a good thing I don't live closer I'd probably makes things worse

Re: Not the best evening..
Oh Blue, some people you can't talk to and sometimes its best to threaten than to be threatened when you are totally out numbered. I'm not a push over by any means but Moo was injured and I was scared and she was my priority. Went up again tonight and had a little play, I now think I am more on edge than her, and no there isn't anyone I can go with.
Her face is still really swollen and I am beginning to worry it is infected, or do you think its still bruising as the cuts are healing cleanly? Its just a big lump surrounded by the 4 cuts....

Re: Not the best evening..
You really can't tell from pics, the pattern in her hair masks the cuts very well, and the swelling is noticeable but again not really by a pic as its on the jaw bone so looks lop sided when I look down on her.
I'll monitor it, just kinda shows it can happen to anyone, I have always felt very safe but who knows what can happen, I will be ok again, take more than this to knock me down.....

Your right about it could happen to anyone. Things like that happen in the blink of an eye as well. Sounds like you handled it amazingly well.

Re: Not the best evening..
Janey, I was going to say this yesterday as I felt so bloody mad about what you and Moo went through (that picture of her, so innocent with her little tennis balls broke my heart) but I didn't.
But now it has been mentioned - I DO live close to you as you may know (20/30 minutes away) and my support is here if you need it, just let me know.
Re Moo's legacy of the dog attack - a photo would be very helpful. Unfortunately a bite from a dog is very likely to become infected, so please check if the swelling feels particularly hot and/or painful to the touch.
Poor little Moo - she didn't deserve this and neither did you.
Big (((((((HUGS)))))))) to you both.

Re: Not the best evening..
I will certainly keep an eye on her, I was kinda thinking the swelling has gone down but the lump is sill rather pronounced. Its not hot or weeping so I will give it a few days. We shall be ok

Ok Mike/Dave's Bitch/Blue - you're forgiven. But you are halfway right - back handers are the very least I feel like giving these thugs who have hurt and upset Janey and Moo.
Janey, I know you will be keeping careful watch on Moo, hopefully it's "just" a bruise.

Cheers Ben, its still really big and feels very solid, but there are no visible signs of infection, I am wondering if its worth a vets visit now, but part of me says its bruising, it happened 5 days ago now........?

Try a warm compress and see if swelling reduces at all. It shouldn't be getting bigger, but it can take a few days for swelling to go down. I recommend you take a picture each day to compare as it can be hard to see. Also keep your eye out for puss or weeping of any kind. It should be very dry and scabbed over now.

Re: Not the best evening..
How are you and Moo feeling today Janey? A shake-up like that takes some getting over.
I read your first post again (I got a red mist in front of my eyes when I read it the first time - maybe Blue is right and I do have a terrible temper!), but on second reading, although they were mouthy little gits on the first meeting (well they're 'ard, innit), at least they did act quickly and apologized when they rushed off. It was your quick action with a cigarette (see, smoking does have some uses!) which saved further damage from being done, and I'm betting that a)the kids were scared when they saw what damage the dog had done and b) the dog has a very sore nose!
Tbh if you're still concerned about the swelling on Moo's face, if only for peace of mind I'd take her to the vet. An infection can get trapped as I'm sure you know, especially if the initial wound has healed over. If it is "only" a bruise, then applications of arnica gel can work wonders (I've been using it on my sprained finger), so long as Moo can't lick it off.
Love and hugs ...

Re: Not the best evening..
Might be best Janey, if only to stop you worrying. Centuries ago my Dobe got bitten on her ear, I bathed it etc and it healed. Some days later a lump came up there and I took her to the vet - the abscess burst in the waiting room - eeuw. Anti-biotics ensued.
If Moo's swelling came up quite quickly then it is very possible it is just a bruise, but best to check it out imho.
