Not the best evening..
First topic message reminder :
Is about all I can say.....
Just taken Moo out for her usual tennis ball hunt. We get near the park and I see 7/8 kids (well 18/19) with a staff onlead. They shouted to put Moo on which I had already done and then proceeded to scream at me that the dog had already ripped another dogs face off today... and on and on, not what I expected to encounter we just diverted our route.
Moo was rather upset so we sat on the wall and I calmed her down, we carried on with our hunt. Unfortunately as we where leaving I was just about to put her back onlead and the same group of kids turned up, there dog was onlead but it all happened in a split second and it grabbed Moo by the face, I managed to grab there dog and put my hand in between the bite but I couldn't make it let go, quick thinking by them as there was a tap and they threw water over him, still didn't let go, I only had a fag which I pushed on the dogs nose and it let go.
Moo was squirting blood but the kids just rushed the dog off and apologized as they had forgotten to muzzle it.
Now Moo was off lead there's on, and I feel really really bad, she is pacing and has a cut on her cheek. One of the girls turned around and said she would do me in so to speak as I was crouched on the floor holding Moo, I pulled my phone out and said I would call the police and they all ran.
It has knocked my confidence and I am worried about Moo. Never been so worried in my life, I know she was off lead but she always is when up there. I feel I have let her down.

Nice one. Give her big hugs from me and Blue (well he would if he wasn't snoring like a trooper)

Re: Not the best evening..
OMG Janey, I have only just read this, and I feel so upset for you and Moo. Just remember Moo will feel your fear too, so when you go out, its going to make Moo more jumpy. Those ....... kids, homeless or not, they knew what their staffie was like and yet they allowed it to happen. In fact you know I am somewhat suprised they can ever afford to look after a staffie......... NO fault of yours at all, just because it happened as you went to put Moo back on lead, these things happen all the time. You havent let Moo down, those kids have!!! Moos face is now healing, its time now, you both started to heal and get your confident back, baby steps for now. You will soon get your Moo back, give her a chance, that has been a very scary experience for you both. Love and hugs to you both from me and Pixee (for some reason I cant get the hug smilie up on here, only at the start, sorry Janey) xxxxxxxxxxx

Re: Not the best evening..
All the swelling is gone, the first cut is pretty much healed over now, but the second has a little way to go, will get a pic if she ever decides she wants to move! I don't think there will be much of a scar. I am rather pleased with that, thanks Caryll Xx

Re: Not the best evening..
Dogs don't scar all that easily, and when they do it's usually covered by the fur regrowth, so I don't think you'll see anything once it's all healed over.

Re: Not the best evening..
Thanks guys, she was ace today, approached by lots of smaller dogs (yes we get that a lot in the park), no growling just playing, didn't even mind sharing her water. Very very pleased

I do understand Janey; I think we humans dwell on and worry about these things more than our dogs do.

Re: Not the best evening..
Hugo send hugs and licks to moo,
I had an awful experience outside of my own front gate, my dad had given me and Hugo a lift home from work, mum got out of the car and grabbed hugos lead and I scrambled out after him. Saw a lad we knew with his dog (a patterdale terrier) it was on a piece of rope but didn't take much notice at the time. Heard the lad shout get the dog on a lead (Hugo already was) dog run up and sniffed Hugo, Hugo sniffed back, next thing it turned, Hugo squealed in fright. My dad had to kick the dog to get him off Hugo because he had hung on to his tail. My dad was devastated doing this but we didnt kniw what else to do. I had cuts all over me and never felt so helpless in all my life.
I was then told that I had a big staff that could have ripped his dog apart, I snapped back that Hugo was treated like a baby and is a family pet not taught to attack other dogs, I was in absolute shock!
Hugo was very shook up for a few weeks after the experience as was I, both you and moo together will be ok
Because of the bleeding i did take Hugo straight to the vets and he had a tetanus injection, and antibiotics due to not knowing if the other dog had vaccines xxx

Re: Not the best evening..
Thanks for the kind words Louise, sadly it was Moo offlead but she never attacked, it just happened oh so quickly. Very very scary, and I am suprised I didn't come off any worse if I am honest.
Hindsight is a great thing, and if it ever happened again I would be straight to the vets, I never realised how bad it was! It is looking better, but as you can see in the photo, it really does show the damage done. I will say it is clean and healing........
