Hyper active in evenings
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has any advice.
Alfie is 10months old and is generally doing fine, (he still play bites/jumps up but we are teaching him not to and I can see progress)
But the one thing that's making it really hard is that he goes nuts about 6-7pm everyday, kind of over excited/overtired? He bites our other dog and us incessantly, if we put him outside he digs stuff up, you can't seem to occupy him with anything. Eventually he crashes out and sleeps the rest of the evening.
Will he grow out of it? If so any idea of when? Should we make him go in his crate? Does that seem mean?
Is this normal behaviour?
Any advice appreciated

Zoomies, most definitely normal how much excersise does he get? Perhaps you could play some mental games to keep him entertained and tire him out

Do your dogs still do this or have they grown out if it?
he went on his second hour long walk (about 50% off lead) at 6pm today and he has been a nightmare since we got back.
He is on Skinners field and trial, the hypoallergenic stuff, do you think that may be making him worse if it is for working dogs? The lamb and rice is for non working dogs and has 2% less protein, would that be better?
We have a couple of the nina ottensin toys which he likes, but he seems to do them so quickly, but is that still tiring enough?

Yep this deffo sounds like zoomies Shéara's going nuts right this moment chucking his bed around and tearing around the house! Its 100% normal!
Some grow out of it, some dont, but dont put your pooch in a crate for this behaviour though, try taking him for a walk or play tug to burn some energy. Sometimes it can just be boredom if you sit down to relax but their not ready to settle yet. The toys are very stimulating and can be quite frustrating for some dogs. Maybe a chew bone such as a stag bar might be more appropriate for late evenings when its time to calm down, or maybe a frozen kong to keep himself occupied.

Definitely agree with Kita about not putting in his crate, you need it to be his safe place not to be seen as a punishment. Daisy almost always has zoomies after a walk, even if we've been out for hours!!

Ok, operation "tire out Alfie" is on, he has been gnawing a big knuckle bone this morning, and I have been doing his nina ottensin toy with him, he still can't get a handle on getting out the bones though.
Am freezing them both a stuffed kong for later, and will have a big walk this afternoon.

Rocky is chasing his tail in circles as we speak, round and round and round...making me dizzy haha, bed is all over the place and going mental, definitely normal! No punishment for it though, just having some fun, normally 10 minutes of tug wears him right out at this time

Re: Hyper active in evenings
Def completely normal! Gwen is almost 7 months old and has a crazy 45 minute period each night when she goes completely insane! How much exercise does Alfie get & what do you feed him? He will grow out of it but in the mean time you could try to take him out for some exercise maybe throw a ball for a little or take him on a walk!

Re: Hyper active in evenings
Sorry I just saw that you have already said what he is fed on and how much exercise he gets. After we take Gwen on a walk she is always super crazy when we get home for a few mins!
