dark morning/evenings walks
i have to walk sasha first thing in the morning by myself as hubby leaves home really early to catch the first ferry off the island, this time of year as its still dark in the morning we do half the walk around our estate ending up at the fields as its just getting light, the fields are just a few minutes away from the estate and i have been doing this for a couple of years now and never thought any thing of it until i read this months news letter about keeping safe in the dark.she loves her morning run up the fields and i have to take her early as i've work first thing.just wondered if any one else does the same and if you carry any thing with you ie rape alarms, some sort of protection?

Re: dark morning/evenings walks
At this time of year, I prefer the morning darknes. From my point of view most people are still in beds but in the evening... I just don't feel save walking Debo out in the dark, specially when he's still a puppy and thinks that everyone is a friend

Doesn't bother me, to be honest; I tend not to think about that sort of thing. Dempsey's a pretty fearsome looking dog, though, especially in the dar - he seems to look twice as wide.
It's normally light when I take him out in the morning, but his afternoon walk's often dark-ish and the last thing one is always dark.

Re: dark morning/evenings walks
Our morning walk is light as we do the school run then have a half hour forty minutes on top of that, but the evening walk is dark now. It's so quiet here we can often do it without seeing a soul though, sometimes we see Dex's new staffie friend a lovely girlie from round the corner. I quite like the dark nights though, not such a fan of dark mornings.

The only thing it could do with IMO, is a loop to put a lanyard through when out with the dawg so ya can hang it round ya neck or over the shoulder, otherwise you have to have it in your hand all the time unless you have a sturdy pocket you can pop it in when you need both hands .... but it is a seriously good bit of kit that I would recomend to anyone

Re: dark morning/evenings walks
Both my walks now are in darkness and laska is wearing a reflective collar with red flashing leds while marley has a julius k9 harnes with reflective straps and a mini mag light. Hoping the local chavs will slow down if they see him. As for personal saftey...dont be a hero. Dont feel safe? get out of the situation asap. Youll see all sorts of fighting back advice but nothing beats not getting into that situation in the first place. So what if the dogs have a short walk, main thing is tomorrow youll be there take em out for longer.

Agree with this. Get something if it'll make you feel safer, of course, but if you still worry, just don't go out when at that time. All the teenagers around where I live are setting off fireworks and throwing them at people, so I've resigned myself to not taking Loki out in the evening and just going before the kids are out causing trouble until it all calms down.

Geat bit of advice, remember the eaisest way to avoid being a loser is not to enter in the first place , you can have all the defences you think you need but it will never be enough , KEEP SAFE

You being serious, you are a bloke
As said, my morning walk is in the light, one in the afternoon, I try to make sure I do the walk before dark, dont fancy walking along the canal paths or the woods in the dark. Although there is a trading estate not far which is pretty lid up, I am not allowed there on my own with Pixee. Me and hubby often do that walk, well we did when we first had Pixee, so I am hoping we do it again. I always feel safe doing my walks.
I like that torch, the big one, its great to carry and handy should you need it . you know for what

Re: dark morning/evenings walks
Rocky has a flashing/lightup collar for the dark evening walks. My hubby usually does walk anyway and he does carry a hefty torch with him too. Cant be too careful, it's not just women that get attacked.
I wouldn't walk around where I live during the day that alone at night.

Re: dark morning/evenings walks
Ralph has a nite dawg light up collar, and I carry a small torch, but it is very dark because we are out in the sticks.
I don't even go into the woods on my own during the day - I'm a right *. If I have to walk Ralph without the other half in the evening it's a quick one! It does worry me though. I wonder if I should get a rape alarm, or one of those torches as mine is very small...

Re: dark morning/evenings walks
My 2 are walked around 8.30am and 2.30pm now, so just after the school run and just before pickup. I won't walk in the dark, too many dodgy characters around.
Weekends tho are different when hubby is here tho.
