As im super excited about bringing our puppy lola home and cant but get more and more excited since signing to this forum.
Im thinking about every little details. Its just over 2 weeks away and we already have a one and half year old beagle Jessie

What do you think the best way to introduce lola into the home and to Jessie is??

I was thinking let the puppy have a walk around sniffy ect while Jessie waits outside, only thing is as soon as Jessie clocks onto the puppy inside she will get mega hyped and maybe be too crazy for the first hello.

How have you dealt with bringing a 2nd dog home?

When we brought Rolo home 18 months ago, we brought him in in his carry case and just sat it down on the lounge floor whilst my older collie had a sniff round, then I just opened it up and sat with him on my knee whilst Flynn (collie) had another good sniff. Then Flynn decided he'd done his bit and went back to his bed and Rolo was released onto the floor. Rolo had his huge cage so he wasn't able to pester Flynn to much to start with, but everywhere I went with Flynn, Rolo went too, to start with he was carried out on walks, then as soon as his vaccinations were done, he was off on the big field with Flynn by his side keeping him in order Big Grin And still at 18 months old.. Rolo idolises his Uncle Flynn Big Grin Good luck and just chill out. Maybe best to make sure your Beagle has had a good run out first.. just to lower the energy slightly. Fingers crossed for you.

One of our members Kennyd has just done this last week , check out her posts and see how she's getting along Smile

Can't imagine your Beagle will be more challenging than a 2 year old staff.

My personal advice , as I've done it is gentle introductions , don't let the pup get in the Beagles face ( you will see from the body language) . Don't over favour the pup and promote any jealousy and monitor at all times Smile

Thanks kelpie, a good walk for Jessie before is a good idea.

Dave, definitely wont be favouring the pup, they'll both get the same attention. Looked through kenny d posts and read loads of good tips and advice. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Hi Mike and Donna,
Just before brought Lilly home, Kenny got a big walk. He's a very hyper 2 year old lol. Tbh, I was terrified lol. On the 1st meet, Kenny was very excited even tried being a little dominant. They had a good sniff at each other, and began to play. Sometimes Kenny gets to full on with play and i put a stop to it (there's a little vid some where). It's really important that your exsisting dog still gets a little time out and reassurance that there's nothing to worry about. We're now on day 8 and still things arent 100% yet.
Lilly sometimes plays but begins biting kenny, this has to be stopped. Kenny will growl and nudge her away, so constant supervision is needed. She's very cheeky tho and sometimes his growl wont stop her, so i then put her in her cage.
Please keep posting, it will be great to see how your getting along xxx
