Staffies and Forests Empty Staffies and Forests

Post by Sookie Fri Jun 21 2013, 09:58

Morning all,

Had this week off work so Sookie and Cooper (our JRT) have been getting extended walks. Been out today walking though the local farmland and woodland. I've had a mixed variety of dogs over the years (Labrador, other JRT, German Shepherd, etc). However Sookie our Staffie is definitely the breed/dog that loves woodland the most. She loves running through the undergrowth, trees, bracken, etc far more then any other dog I've had since I was a kid.

Is this Sookie's personal choice or a staffie trait? I've always noticed it but today brought it home as Cooper the JRT stuck to the footpaths (staying occasionally) with me while Sookie was 10 metres in front zig zagging the undergrowth, trees, ditches, etc.

What do you reckon and what does your staffy do?

Rocky loves getting his nose stuck into everything too while we are out and about, it maybe a terrier thing and the fact that he does have a high prey drive which the rescue centre we got him from did warn us about.

Sookie is off like a bandit in the woods. Almost once she enters you see her energy levels increase. Interesting to hear the responses so far.

My pooch LOVES woodland...there must be so many smells he gets over excited running about like a madman! He loves digging in the dirt and getting his paws all mucky in the sludge. I personally think its a terrier thing Smile

Rocky will go bonkers if he smells rabbits anywhere and will put my arm off to have a look at them.

Diesel absolutely loves being in the woods! She disappears thru bushes, down steep verges, into muddy puddles u name it! I was always quite surprised by this, probs coz it tends to b more ur labs/collies etc gettin walked in woodland an u only really staffs on the streets (closed minded vue I know)
leroys not quite so adventurous yet, he mainly sticks to footpaths only vergin off to the trees to pee on them haha

I walk Tia around a lake with woods surrounding it. The side of the path near the woods is full of staffs and Jack russells rooting around for squirrels and rabbits. The lakeside is full of labs and spaniels diving around in the water!
